I do have a question for the CP collective genious though. What kind of child locks do you guys use on cabinets? The house had some on there, but some of them are broken and they're generally not good.

Magnetic for any chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc. and the good old fashioned push down types for drawers and cabinets.

Don't forget toilet locks, either. They're a PITA for adults but save lives.

If you purchase something from Amazon that isn't as described, they have free returns.

Personally, I'd shop for everything online if I could because my time is so limited. Going to Costco burns two hours minimum for each trip, groceries and Target at least two more. That's a lot of time when you've got young kids with play dates, homework and everything else that life requires.

I can't help it. When I can save 20 percent and it shows up on my doorstep the next day, I'm taking it. But for every one of me there are 20 buying it from the store so it should balance out.

This. Did you subscribe to Amazon Mother? Also, if you have stairways, buy a gate to block them off. Also on Amazon. Once they start to crawl.
And for God sake if you have a pool put a fence around it.

We didn't use them. We didn't keep dangerous stuff where they could reach them and they lost interest quickly in getting into the cabinets. We did have a couple of drawers in the kitchen that were theirs that they kept small toys and books in. That seemed to keep them happy.

My parents put child locks on their cabinets and the boys seemed more interested in that because the couldn't get into the cabinets.

Never really saw the need for them and never had a problem with it.

Yeah, definitely Amazon Mom. But no Safeway, which is a bummer. We have Von's and Pavillion's (owned by Safeway) but neither have stores in delivery range. The nearest Costco is five miles away, which is 25-30 minutes LA drive time.

We have multiple staircases so I put in retractable gates on two of the three staircases and one in our child-proofed playroom. When the kids are away or asleep, the gates are open and I never even notice the mechanisms anymore (they're white, so they blend in with the baseboards and door casings).

We did the same thing. The twins were around 1.5 when we moved into our current house and it already had child safety shit installed. Neither having it or not having it seemed to bug them.

The only thing that we HAVE installed is door handle covers. Those little punks love to get into rooms that they shouldn't be in. Now not so much.

We had a gate across our stairs for a while but that was about it. TBH it was mostly just to keep them from going upstairs and being out of sight.

Heck, I've fallen on the stairs more than they ever did.

The non-slamming toilet seats are a good thing to get if you have boys once they are potty trained. That can do some damage.

Our situation is probably different than most. We have absolutely no family in SoCal. The nearest relatives are 400 miles away and they're too old to babysit or nanny. So with that being the case, we've had multiple nannies and babysitters in the past 5+ years and there's a piece of mind knowing that everything is locked and child proofed when we're away.

We also have multiple video monitors and even a heart rate monitor in the baby crib.
