The Boneyard Returns to XM Radio

For all you headbangers out there....The Boneyard is back.
It is now located on XM 53.

They had replaced it with Sirius' Hair Nation...which was ok, but i can only stand so much of the W bands...(Warrant, Whitesnake, White Lion, etc.)

So...apparently now they have both: Boneyard on XM 53 and Hair Nation on XM 41.

I am really digging XM since the merger. My wife has it in her car and the same preset channels got a lot better.

Yes, definitely. I bought XM back a few years ago based on content, and it appears I was right. Two of the main channels I listened to - Squizz (hard rock) and Liquid Metal (metal, duh) have changed to Octane (Sirius's hard rock) and Liquid Metal retained the name but lost tons of quality.

Octane is borderline unlistenable with the songs they play and the god-awful Sirius djs. If I wanted to hear fm dj's hitting the post before songs, I'd listen to fm. Liquid Metal got complete pussified and again, the djs are completely horrible Sirius hacks. The playlist at Liquid Metal is now basically Pantera, Slayer, Old Metallica, New Metallica, Korn, Slipknot, rinse/repeat. They sprinkle in some cool tunes every now and again, but it's mostly repeat stuff I've heard a billion times before.

Really? I think Octane went way down hill since the merger. I have/had squizz on my directv and sirius in my car and the difference in the two was a lot. Squizz always played 90's music and now octane is stuck with 90's music.

Don't get me wrong I love good 90's grunge rock but that's why theres a 90's rock channel (lithium). Octane always played badass new tunes before the merger. Now, not as much. Octanes DJ's are good with Kayla and Covino.

Faction is a badass channel most of the time. My bro and I listen to Jason Ellis a lot, he is funny as hell.

My presets are:

1. Octane (20)
2. Alternative (21)
3. Hair Nation (23)
4. Lithium (24)
5. Metal (27)
6. Faction (28)
7. Hits (01)
8. Boneyard (19)
9. NFL (124)
10. is my girlfriends station pop2k (39)

What happened to ac/dc radio now? it was on 19.

I thought this was an XM thing. Hard Attack was a lot more aggressive before the switch. I've heard Ozzy and Metallica more since the merger than the entire 2 years prior to it. There was almost never any Korn on.

Oh well, I'm looking at canceling anyway. With Slacker on my my phone, and a Bluetooth car stereo (which I hope to pick up right before my Sirius scrip expires next month), I have no need of Sirius/XM.

The AC/DC station was a limited time thing. It's back to Boneyard now. I was thinking they would start an all Van Halen channel, or some other older, popular rock band's station.

On a positive note, Sirius channel 38 is an old school hip hop station, starting yesterday, I believe.

And your presets look awfully familiar to mine.

That's weird if both channels were harder before the merger. For example on XM, you would NEVER hear Korn, Deftones, Dream Theater (love them but not for liquid metal), new Metallica, new Ozzie and you wouldn't hear one Slayer and Pantera song per hour. They played a lot more obscure/new metal artists than they do now.

And the djs on Liquid Metal now suck sweaty monkey balls. Ward Cleaver and Katie Brutal were eleventy-billion times better than the jagbags on there now.

The music was definitely much more intense. I don't think I've heard this much Anthrax since high school.

Jose and Scotty are pretty annoying. The only thing I like about Jose was the Devil's Dozen (top 12 requested songs of the week). I haven't heard the show in month's so I have no idea if it's changed or not, but it used to be filled with all sorts of new and heavy music.

Mario's not bad. He used to rip anything even somewhat melodic and talk trash about anything with clean vocals. Now he just doesn't seem to talk much. The music played seem to be what the DJ's wanted, now it seems to be a "classic metal" station.

I plan on sending in a letter when I switch to Slacker full time letting them know why. Early last year I basically stopped listening to anything but Hard Attack. Now I find myself listening to my own music.

I bet it's Mel Karmazin's yearning to turn satellite radio into fm radio. XM was known for extremely deep playlists and now the stations seem to be nothing more than a shallow group of hits from each particular genre. One great example was Lucy, XM's alternative station, had an amazingly deep playlist that people loved, now that it's Lithium it seems to be about 1/10 as deep. People bought satellite because they don't want FM radio, it's reeruned to make it like FM radio.
