What to see in Colorado

Frontier just opened up service to our local airport and was offering crazy cheap fairs to Dungver so I jumped on them.

My 19 year old son and I are flying out in early August for 5 days.

Looking for ideas on what to do and see, especially in the mountains. Scenic train rides, etc.

I was there for a couple weeks last fall.

I would recommend a trip to Estes Park. The drive there from Boulder is worth it in it self. If going in the summer you could drive through it all and hit Lake Gamby. I stayed at Devils Thumb Ranch near Winter Park, they have zip lines and Horseback riding in the summer. Nice place.

If you are a little more adventurous you could raft down the colorado river. I did a two day float from Fruta to the Westwater Ranger Station. Overnight at the Black Rocks. If you are that far west you might as well hit Moab, which is a great little town in Utah and check out Arches National Park

Last time in Denver, I had to see a few clients in Denver, then Fort Collins, Keystone SD and Rapid City SD.

I had to laugh when I got to SD - to see a billboard that read "Bring your Dope to South Dakota and Go To Jail" Funny part? Colorado outlawed high capacity magazines for guns. The Cabelas in Rapid City has them in giant barrels for folks from Colorado to purchase. Funny as hell.

Truth be told, I'm glad I quit smoking that crap 40 years ago.....

A vacation in Colorado should be a get-away. Avoid the tourist areas. Find a cabin in the mountains near a stream and relax.

His location is Spink, South Dakota. I suspect that he's needing a break from cabins and solitude and relaxation.

When I moved to Durango people would call me up and say 'hey I'm in Denver for a couple day's lets grab a beer'. Heh, it's 7 hours north in one direction through some of the windiest, steepest mountain roads you'll ever drive. Meet ya here at El Rancho!

To be honest, unless you want to mountain bike, hike, fly fish, ski or something along those lines Durango isn't the place to visit. The train is cool. You can drive from one end of town to the other in less than 5 minutes if you don't hit a red light. It's a place to get away from that stuff.

If you've ever been to Silverton it's a couple notches above that as far as organized social activity but not much. If you somehow do arrive here shoot me a PM and we'll get in touch. I'll show ya the town.

Should take about 15 minutes!

LOL you bastard, you forgot to mention I'd want something with indoor plumbing so I didn't have to walk to the shithouse in the morning.
