Dexter McCluster will catch 90 balls

According to Jim Zorn, who talked to this fan on an airplane.

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2012/9...s-brain-picked

Quote:
Zorn loves McCluster, predicted he would have 90 catches this year. (so pick him up on your fantasy wire, I did..)
I'm utterly horrified if this account is true. This means:

A)I will be destroyed in another bet.

B)Our offense will be a joke if McCluster touches the ball that much.

I like coaches that gamble and think out of the "Marty" box. Hell I'd have hired Marty back before I hired Crennel. But that's me. I don't know Crennel well enough personally to be able to say he isn't the best hire. Maybe he is. I do know Pioli is such a ****ing coward who's afraid to walk through a casino and will walk completely around it to avoid walking the shorter distance through it. That is the very definition of risk averse. I personally have no such issue, maybe in reverse.

DMC is garbage.

Bowe and Breaston are an excellent combo.

Who could both be 1,000 + if Cassel wasn't so full of suck.

thats the problem, those QBs on those playoff teams you listed would make Bowe, Breaston 1000+ yard receivers and Baldwin an easy 700-800 yard 10 touchdown 3rd guy redzone threat.

The fact that Cassel can't do any of that hinders all of the potential and the "weapons" aspect

OTWP answered your question in the post below, but to expand, the Donkeys and Texans led the league in rushing attempts last year, and both teams still attempted over 420 passes.

We might throw the ball 450 times this year.

Bowe should get 150-175 targets.

Baldwin around 75-100.

Breaston around 75.

On the low end, that leaves 150 targets for Charles, Hillis, Boss and Moeaki.

IIRC, Charles alone had somewhere around 70 targets in his big 2010 season.

Let's say the backs split 75 targets.

That leaves 75 for the TE's to split.

So unless we through the ball 500+ times - which hasn't happened ONCE since Cassel became the QB - any touches DMc gets are just stealing opportunities from a better player.

He's the 8th option, and he's probably going to get more than 50 targets.

What does that tell you about our offense?

People have this blind hatred & bias for McCluster just because of where he was drafted. It's ridiculous. No matter what this kid does, he can't win with some of you.

Why? Because Pioli picked him the 2nd.

Boo ****ing whoooo. Get over it. It was 3 goddamn years ago.

The Midget has done enough this preseason and TC to show an OBJECTIONABLE person that he can in fact contribute to this offense, and by the looks of it, the Chiefs are planning on using him a lot. Anyone with eyes can see that.

McCluster may not be great, but he's not bad either.

If on the field production means ANYTHING....then he does in fact deserve more targets than guys like Baldwin and Moeaki, because he has out produced them and has done more with his opportunities than they have.

But of course, CP will continue turning a blind eye to that because, well.....because he was picked in the 2nd round.
I don't hate McCluster because of where he was selected.

I just disagee adamantly with the perception by so many here that he is some kind of playmaker.

That is simply not true.

I hate that this team selected Tyson Jackson with the #3 overall a couple of years ago, but I don't hate Jackson.

I am fairly pleased with his progress to this point.

I expect McCluster to catch a ton of balls this season, and would not be surprised at all if that number reaches 90.

I also would not be surprised to see him at rouhly 750-800 yards.

That would be piss poor production.

Some of that will be on Cassel, because defenses will be playing everything in the box.

But a big part of that overall lack of production will be on McCluster, because he is not a playmaker that has the ability to turn short passes into big plays.

That is unless Boss was signed purely for depth...
I belive that Boss was signed because he is an outstanding run blocker, and has reliable hands in the passing game.

He is not going to put up big numbers, but his blocking will open holes for Charles, and he'll make a number of big third down conversions as a reciever.

Should be an interesting year regardless.
I don't believe that you have to pass the ball 500-600 times a season for 4500+ yards even in this QB driven league.

I still believe that the Texans would have advanced to the SB last year if Matt Schaub is healthy.

You can still run the ball and play defense and win in the playoffs.

What you need, however, is a QB that can make plays when plays need to be made.

If I thought Matt Cassel was that guy, the Chiefs could run the ball 800 times, and pass fewer than 300 times over the course of the season for all I care.

If he moves the chains and picks up key 3rd downs, that would be contributing and making plays.

850 yards last year.

his score lead to 3 of our wins last year.

Solid preseason leading into his 3rd year.

850 yards that don't mean shit.

He's not a RB anymore.

He's not going to be used the same way.

He's expected to beat cornerbacks now.

I'm waiting to be impressed.

FYI, giving McCluster credit for 3 wins is total BS.

I'll give him credit for the Denver win.

The Chicago victory/hail mary was a miracle, and catching a couple of dump passes against San Diego doesn't deserve much credit either (especially when the key play on that drive was Breaston's).

It says a lot about Dexter when he's being "credited" for wins that the defense secured last year.

Without his contributions in those games, we dont win any of those matchups.

You can chime the "he got lucky" bell all you want, but you are just digging your own grave with every negative post on the kid.

"his contributions"

He had 9 touches for 28 yards against the Chargers.

Across those three games he averaged 5.9 yards per touch.

That's ****ing awful for a suppposed "playmaker"

"contributions"
