Junior Seau dead, probable suicide

North County Times reporting Seau "found dead by a housekeeper of a gunshot wound to the chest."

Junior Seau Dead Cops Investigating Shooting

Cops are currently at Seau's home just outside San Diego. Seau was 43-years-old ... and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife.

Seau was a beast in the NFL -- skyrocketing to fame thanks to his explosive play with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. The USC standout was selected in the first round of the NFL draft in 1990 and played in the league for 20 years.

Seau was involved in a car accident back in 2010 when he drove his SUV off a cliff in Carlsbad, CA hours after he was arrested for allegedly attacking his girlfriend. Seau later said he was not trying to kill himself ... insisting he had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Which is fine, unless a) you exhibit this level of vehemence towards someone who is suffering badly from it, or b) you have to live with it yourself sometime in the future. I hope neither happens, but my advice to you is to ease up on the outright dismissal of its severity a little, and maybe soak in a little of what everyone else in this thread is saying.
I don't say anything to anybody who is suffering. I go out of my way to help anybody and everybody. But once they end it, that's final. It's over.

I haven't been in DC in a very long time.

The fact that you don't understand suicide just means you are ignorant of it. The people committing suicide are not capable of making rational decisions. It is mental illness, and you can have a wrong opinion about it but you can't change that fact. Luckily the medical profession isn't like you.

Well that and as someone else said. Do we have to sympathise with the mental problems of pedophiles, murders? I mean we don't know the things they go through. They have mental problems also. Where is the line drawn? Who decides the line?

Sorry for the loss of your uncle. I'm not about to smear your nose in his death. Enough said.

That's a good question. I don't excuse nor accept any of it. I'm glad I'm not the one making those decisions. I am intolerant towards suicide as any kind of answer and whether I understand or am ignorant doesn't make me an idiot, moron or horrible person.

I had an aunt commit suicide, an aunt who I didn't know very well. It didn't impact me much, but she left young children behind, and I saw how it impacted them, for a long, long time. She wasn't looney either, just stressed and depressed. I imagine she either had no idea how it'd impact her family, or didn't care. I admit that incident informed my opinion on seemingly senseless suicide years later, but I don't apologize for it, and I believe I'm right. It is an unbelievably selfish, destructive act, and I've got no patience for it. If you aren't utterly crazy or in pain, then people who kill themselves, especially if they leave behind a family, do not deserve to be remembered fondly, at all.

The academic research also backs up the idea that the thought of suicide is very temporary and fleeting. People who try regret their attempt, so that tells me, aside from the people in pain ready for Kevorkian, are weak-willed and or ego-driven.

Here's why I see both sides. I have had a couple of moments in my life where I got to a point where I could see the value in ending it all. I never took it any farther. I couldn't conceive of the pain it would cause for others. But it gave me a glimpse of why some people do it, and my thought was that if I magnified that feeling a few times, my caring about how others felt might be overwhelmed by a desire to just make it all stop, immediately and permanently. No more pain, at least for me. That may be selfish, but it isn't malicious.

I didn't mean to end the discussion, which I think is an important one to have. I only meant to say that I didn't feel I had to either curse my uncle as being a selfish person, nor did I have to think suicide was okay or acceptable way of ending a problem.

I agree, he is just an intolerable ass because he knows and anyone else that does not agree with him is dumb. I mean, he gets to decide what mental illnesses are foregivable.

That's probably a healthy place for you to be in grief. Stay there.
