Long weekend getaway ideas

You have two tickets to fly anywhere in the lower 48 states. Where do you go and why?

Just for a long weekend for two.

Note: Even if you are not into gambling there is plenty to do. Kinda warm this time of year, easy to get around, lots of shows, free entertainment, and good dining options. You can get cheap ass rooms during the week. I've stayed at the Palms for 80 bucks a night. Nice place but the location sucks since the strip is on the other side of the interstate. You should be able to find cheap hotels on the strip like the Luxor or something.

I've also stayed at the Trump's hotel, which is really nice. One of my favorite spots is the Platinum. It's not a casino and is located just behind the strip.

If you are a real tight ass you could stay way off of the strip at a local casino like Arizona Charlie's or something. 25 bucks a night or something.

Grab a steak at Vic and Anthony's at the Golden Nugget. - That's not a budget place. Never mind but its really good.
IMO, "Vegas" and "budget" just don't mix. It's hard to find anything really fun to do on the strip that doesn't cost money. It's much cheaper to stay off-strip, but off-strip is a LOT shittier, too. And if you're taking a cab from the strip to a place off-strip, you'll negate all the savings in cab fare.

Vegas is best enjoyed when you have enough money to do basically whatever the hell you want to.

There is so much to do in this area. Mini-Vegas without all the hassle and plenty of food/gambling/debauchery. The Lake Tahoe area is beautiful with plenty to do and see in winter or summer. I especially enjoy the old casinos on the Cal/Nev border for dinner. They don't have the traffic of the Reno casinos, so they have some killer dinner specials.

Oh, I disagree. Just walking through all the casinos is entertainment in itself. If we go we will take in at least one show and then one side event like repelling or jumping off the stratosphere. The rest would be sightseeing and eating.

Of course, my wife is interested in the cruise idea so I am going to at least entertain it.

Different strokes, I guess. I find walking through the casinos/malls extremely boring. Too much smoke, too many slot machines, too many shops selling a bunch of shit that I can't afford. Playing the games is different, but just walking through -- no thanks.

The cool bars are the highlight, but they're not cheap.

Yeah but I don't think his mrs is going to enjoy watching him do a line off a $1500 call girl's stomach.

I would want to do more than just sit on the beach. Care to be a tourguide?

Disney, Universal and Sea World are an hour away. Miami 3 hour drive. Daytona 2 hours. Space coast 1.5 hours.

Suppose to be 81 degrees tomorrow. Frezzing rain up there, correct? Sitting on a beach sounds pretty good to me.

Where ever we end up going I just want to stay in the area. Keep it simple and relaxed. I've never been much of a beach person though. But if there is a lot to do in Tampa I would definitely consider it.

Some of the best beaches in the world are what draw people to this area. Deep sea fishing, boating etc.

But we do have the most "gentlemen clubs" per captia in the world. As John Stewart says...... In Tampa, you can't get a $ bill without at least some glitter on it.

You can fly real cheap out of Springfield, Mo. to St. Petersburg on Alligiant Air. Fares are less than $60 one way sometimes. Several cruise ships leave out of Tampa. Go to the Bahamas's, Cozumel, Key West etc. Just an idea for ya.

There was a nice Marriott near the cruise terminal in Tampa. Walking distance to lots of stuff.
