We paid more money to Cassel, Jackson, Dorsey, and Berry.

Hell, we're probably on the hook for more money to our head coach than we will be to pick 1.1
The risk isn't risking the owner's money. The risk is that by drafting a QB number 1, you're hitching your wagon to him for 3 years at least.

No one cares about Mr. Hunt's money. He could invest it in Herbalife for all Chiefs fans care.

The risk is setting the franchise back 3 to 5 years like missing on the last QB did.

Especially when, you guessed it, there's a veteran option available who just quarterbacked in a conference championship a season ago.

Becuase of the new CBA, the risk is none. Draft another one if Geno fails. If that guy fails? Draft another.

That simply isn't true.

If you could, would you trade for Mark Sanchez?

Why do you like Alex Smith so much but hate Sanchez? Sanchez is just as impressive as Alex Smith stat-wise and in "big games".

If you want Alex Smith, you should want Mark Sanchez, right?

Or do you want to try again, this time realizing that it doesn't ****ing matter if you QB'd a team to a conference championship?

You are hitching your wagon to ANY QB you take. We ****ing stuck our wagon on that gimped up reerun horse Matt Cassel. Did we get out of it quicker because he wasn't a rookie QB? No.

How often do #1 overall QBs get dumped after an underwhelming second year? Isn't going to happen.

If he sucked the second year, the third year there'd be idle talk about competition, maybe a veteran brought in to 'push' or 'motivate' him. But the team would slog through another year hoping to turn him into a system QB or get some pennies back for their dollar.

A #1 overall is going to get 3 years easily, and if he doesn't work out, you've got to start over drafting another one. If your next one hits, it's probably year 5 before you're ready again.

All the while, there's a pretty well proven commodity available for a second, third, possibly free.

How often do FA QB's just brought in get only 1 year? Or QB's you trade for? This idea that only drafted QB's get a grace period is a JOKE.

Sanchez has never played anywhere near the level Smith did in 2011 and 2012. You're comparing apples to turds.

Almost to the point where I hope we pass on Geno, he goes to the Raiders and dildo rams us for 10 years, just for the true fans who want Joeckel at 1.

Another team's backup got 4 years. We're just NOW recovering from his bullshit.

Grbac lasted 4 years as well. Bono? Klinger?

Trent Green is the only example that worked out (kinda). All that in 20 years of no playoff wins.

Enough is e****ingnough

The SAME THING would happen with Alex Smith. If they bring him in to start, he'll get THREE YEARS, minimum.

It's amazing that Matt Cassel JUST HAPPENED and some people act like it's a distant memory.

I guess HotCarl missed the part where it's known that league wide, no one really wants Alex Smith?
