2013 NFL Draft: Dion Jordan will visit the Kansas City Chiefs

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/3...as-city-chiefs

Andy Reid, John Dorsey and the Kansas City Chiefs defensive coaches descended on Oregon last week where the Ducks help their pro day. Of interest was Dion Jordan, the defensive end / outside linebacker, who is considered one of the top prospects in the 2013 NFL Draft. Now there's this from Tony Pauline:

I'm assuming this is a separate visit to the Chiefs facilities, and not just seeing him at Oregon's pro day last week.

(This is the part where we read way too much into one visit.) It makes some sense though. Drafting this high you want players who can throw the ball or those who can get to the guy throwing the ball. There are plenty of question marks about Jordan as a possible No. 1 pick as it relates specifically to the Chiefs -- Tamba? Houston? -- but on the surface I can see why Reid and Dorsey would be interested in using the top pick on a pass rusher. We covered a lot of the Chiefs-specific stuff in this post.

Updated: Chiefs draft interests table | Dion Jordan scouting report

Reid spoke to reporters from the NFL owners meetings in Arizona this week and told USA Today's Jim Corbett that Dorsey has "put a tour together" to go see all the players who they might pick No. 1 overall. Reid said that, so far, they'd hit two schools: Oregon and BYU. The interest at BYU could be for defensive end / outside linebacker Ezekiel Ansah, who the Chiefs met with at the Combine.

This is the guy we're drafting. No depth at OLB and Hali will be gone next year.

3) Trade down - if we arent gonna take a qb, there is nobody we can't get the equivalent to an hour later.
4) Dion Jordan - if we can't trade down and are dead set on passing on qbs, the only pick is the best pass rusher in the draft.
5) Tavon Austin - guys that are a threat to score on every play can't get overdrafted. Especially when our qb is limited to shorter passes that the receivers need to make plays after they catch the ball.
6) Ezekial Ansah - not sold on him as a pass rusher at the next level, but the tools are there.
7) Eric Fisher (while keeping Albert to set ulus up with elite bookends.) if they are dead set on taking an OT, Fisher has to be the pick because he can play right tackle.
8) Luke Joeckel - this is an absolute last resort IMO. The guy got beat across his face against good teams (Florida and Alabama) and this option likely means Albert is on his way out.
Why isn't Patterson included in this? I think he would make a nice #2

They won't cut him this year, and next year seems strange since he carries 6 million dollars in dead money.

But I'll be shocked if he's here in 2015 under this deal. They save 9 million on the cap.

The entire draft sucks outside of the QBs when it comes to the top picks. Dion Jordan is relying on his potential more than anything. He's kind of like Dontari Poe in that regard, only not nearly as bad.

The difference is Dontari Poe was taken at #11 overall. Jordan will be going at #1 overall.

If Dorsey and Reid are that stupid about Geno, they should have done a better job playing up the versatility and value of the pick instead of bashing the QBs publicly, hemming and hawing about how difficult of a decision they have, leaking out Branden Albert trade rumors, etc. It's pretty necessary to trade out of the pick if they want to go for a non-QB they really like. But... nope. Trading out would have been difficult anyway, but they certainly didn't help themselves in that matter.

So in their effort to avoid picking Geno, they entrenched themselves deeper into Geno's bosom. Now they have three options: pull out a miracle trade down, take Geno, or look ****ing stupid.

By the way, if you're asking about non QBs I like, it comes down to Fisher, Milliner, and Floyd in terms of players I think will be that "surefire" (god I hate that word) pros. Everyone else has inflated value due to the cum and vomit around them.

This draft is all about potential in the top 10. Sucks, but it's true.

Though I understand why Pioli paid so much for him.

Also don't forget the Chiefs will need to pay Houston in a year too.

The Chiefs would still be in the hook for a massive amount of coin if they traded him.

We've been told we're going to run a 3/4 4/3 hybrid. Can we have Hali and Jordan at 4/3 DE's and than Houston at OLB? Or would that not work

I guess I want to know if you can think of anyone outside CP that shares that thought, because Joeckel is going to be drafted in the top ten, if not by us, someone will take him. What is every scout, every draftpert, and GM missing. You say he did poorly against better competition. Wouldn't that stick out like a sore thumb in his evaluation?
He fared very well in a lot of matchups. As I said, I think he is a good player...but he got beat a lot in those Alabama and Florida games.

I watched a lot of A&M ball and Joeckel is a good left tackle prospect. He can mirror good pass rushers because he has good feet a d is a natural hip striker and knee bender. If we didn't already have a left tackle and had a quarterback, I wouldn't hesitate to select him or Fisher high in the draft.

That's the problem though, we have a guy with similar (if not superior) tools and has already played at a high level in the NFL.

The first pick in the draft is a guy that needs to impact wins and losses and gives you a cornerstone to build a superbowl team around.

A guy the other team has to gameplan for.

A guy that should be able to win matchups against the premier talents the NFL offers.

Replacing a pro bowl quality left tackle with the first pick in the draft would be completely wasting the selection.
