Why Manning ruled out KC...

Apparently, teams were pre-qualified by Manning prior to any visits. When Condon was contacted by the 12 teams, he told them that the contract Manning was starting at was 5 for 90 and going from there.

Teams either had to say in or out at that point.

From there, Manning narrowed his selections.

I was told this from someone yesterday, and then today on Twitter, a great guy to follow, Andrew Brandt commented on it as well. I was leery about what I was told, but this guy confirmed it.

The Chiefs never got past the pre-qualified stage.

Seattle did, but when Manning narrowed his choices, the roster had no appeal.

Just thought I'd post this since we had a lot of discussions about why the Chiefs never got a face to face.

Do we still sign Winston, Boss, Routt and Hilis if we sign Peyton?

I am not saying we are better off because we have Cassel. I am saying we are better off with Cassel + the others than just Manning. If Cassel were to somehow repeat or at least come close to his 27-7 TD\INT season then I think we are much better off than had we signed Manning.
The Manning contract is basically a 5 year deal with $50m guaranteed and of that $50m only $18m is guaranteed for the first year. If Manning has any issue with his neck then he only gets $18m and the rest of the contract is essentially protected against another re-injury of his neck.

You can justify Cassel all you want and say that Manning was too expensive, but the reality is you're wrong and the fan of a team that is paying Cassel $60m and kc has forked out the lion share of this money already, with $16m coming the first year.

What are the odds he doesn't get re-injured this year?

Good question. If Manning re-injures his neck the first year the Broncos are out $18m and essentially Manning's career is over. So yah, that is a pretty big gamble by the Broncos, however, for a shot at a first ballot HoF QB who can immediately elevate the Broncos to a legitmate SB contender, I think they are willing to take that gamble.

If it meant getting the Chiefs a SB win in my lifetime they could have paid him $195 million. It's not my freaking money. Jesus people. They don't take it out of your checking account!

And you wonder why Hunt and Pioli get along so well.

I think to say he elevates them to a SB contender immediately is rather stretching it a bit. He don't have Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne anymore. He makes them better for sure.

Meehhh.

Super Bowl contender next year maybe. It will take some time for your offense to jive with what Manning wants to do, especially after running a pop gun offense for a year.

fair enough, but it puts the Broncos in the playing field for the SB. Also, FA isn't over yet and the Broncos still have $20m in cap room so... yah.
