Above Ground Pools

Any of you own an above ground pool? What are the pros and cons? Any models that you would recommend? Or any tips on owning one?

most I've seen look white trash-ish. I have a buddy that has one with a killer synthetic deck around it, aluminum spindles, and a water feature. It looks totally kick ass.

There is some truth to this. We currently have an inground pool and while it is great on days when it's extremely hot or when the neighbors 22 year old daughter comes over to cool off, the upkeep and maintenance can be a bitch. We've discussed getting rid of it several times, but that's easier said than done.

The positive to above ground pool over inground is this.

-Houses resell easier without the pool. So when you want to resell, you can take it out.
-Owning a pool is very expensive and time consuming. If you change your mind in a few years then you can take it out.

I bought a house about 4 years ago with an above ground pool. I'm a single guy that works a ton so it takes a lot of my hard earned cash and free time. However, the benefits to owning the pool for me are worth it...in fact another one is coming over tomorrow ;-).

I would have taken it out already but I have a very nice and large deck that's built halfway around it. I suppose when I redue my deck I will take the pool out.

You to neighbor girl: "I'm thinking about getting rid of the pool"

Neighbor girl: "If you do, I'll tell your wife we're having casual sex"

You: "I think we'll keep the pool"

There's nothing wrong with an above ground pool, with or without a deck.

I'm 40. She thinks I'm the slightly funny older guy who lives next door and lets her use the pool. I will admit to finding excuses to do yard work around the pool on a few occasions when she's been over. Mirrored sunglasses are a great invention.
