Alright, been in the market for a while. Had an 04 f-150 supercrew fx4 but sold it and have been sitting on the money for now. Decided to start the search again and came across this truck on my way home from work the other day,

05 F-250 Extended cab 6.0 Powerstroke 4x4 140k miles.

12,500 obo.

This is a really good price, so I called the guy and asked if had any motor problems, rebuild title, tranny problems or such.

Never been wrecked, clean and clear title, selling it because he has a work truck and doesnt need it anymore.

Only motor problem was a leak in EGR cooler and had to have head gaskets replaced and went ahead and did the EGR delete kit. He said it runs good and has no problems..


Do you think this is a good deal I should jump on right away? Maybe offer him 10,500 and see how low he goes? He started the truck out at 16,500 had no hits, lowered to 15,000 still nothing, so he went to 12,500 o.b.o.

KBB is 18,500 in good condition.

Anybody here had experience with the 6.0? I know this isn't the best diesel Ford built and cant compare to the 7.3 but just looking for some input.

Haven't been on KBB in awhile and they changed everything around, but when I'm looking for used cars I generally look at the trade in value more than retail.

The 6.0 powerstrokes had horrendous injector issues and they're a very expensive fix. 6.4 powerstrokes weren't much better. A used duramax or cummins is a much better option.

Do a google search on 6.0 powerstroke problems/injectors and you'll get a good idea. I'd be looking somewhere else.

assuming everything's legit, I'd just offer $12k. if it's truly that much below KBB of $18.5k, then he might consider $10.5k a lowball.

not that it's your problem etc, just sayin'. if it's a nice truck, legit, etc, I'd be fine paying for what he's asking and be done with it.

Im closing in fast on 300,000 on my 1992 F-250.diesel. Had a valve job done for free & replaced the injectors at that time,5 years ago. Best truck I have ever owned.

Yeah I have heard of the injector problems in the 6.0. Although I have to say the 7.3 and 6.7 are both very good motors.

From what I hear the injector issue can be avoided by regular maintenance and upkeep and avoiding aftermarket stuff, tunes etc. Unsure how reliable this is, but it's what some are saying.

Stay away from the 6.0 and the 6.4. They ruined Fords diesel reputation. Nothing like the 7.3 (great motor). In fact those two motors are so bad International and Ford are now suing each other over them.
