Without Gus's need for him he has nothing. He's been confident because he has a card to play- that he can make the product that gets everyone paid; they need him. Without that he has no card to play.
I was trying to think what he could do. What could he have to make Gus reconsider. They only thing I can think of is maybe he tells Gus Jesse plans to kill him, and tells Gus about the cigarette pack. Or, he tells Gus he has everything written down- evidence, photos, etc. somewhere that would bring Gus down if anything happened to him. It seems early to go down that route, though.
The other possibility is that Jesse's girlfriend and son play into it, somehow. They showed them again in that last episode, and they almost never do anything without a purpose on the show.

My point was not that he didn't have an option here but the fact that he has been cool and calm when faced with other immediate threats. I forget what season it was but he walked into that one drug guys house knowing full well he could easily get killed and blew the place up. Last season when Gus' goon was about to kill him and he was telling Jesse to kill the other Chemist he was calm and collected even though he very well could have taken a bullet to the head.

Much of this show was based on the premise that once he got Cancer he didn't care what happened to himself. He just wanted to provide for his family. I thought the scene was horrible for that reason. Walt is not a bitch. I think now that they are gonna come after his family the true Walt will come out. He isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. I forsee several people dying at the hands of Walt. Or at the very least dying because of something that Walt set up.

I agree with some of that, but I think Walt's begging to Jesse wasn't about a fear of death. I think it was about a loss of control and power over the situation. That was what brought about panic. Not that he was afraid of personal harm, but that he was afraid of losing any influence he had. So, I don't know that I agree his character was inconsistent in that scene.

I think Ted's death is what bugged me. Just the way it happened. It came across as silly to me.

I am so ready for Skyler to be dead, too. It just gets worse and worse. She's like an anchor dragging the show to a halt every time she's onscreen. And it's not Anna Gunn's fault. She's fine. But the character. Argh.

And either my eyes are going wonky, there was something up with my cable last night or that was some horrendous fx because that final pull back shot was flickering around the edges of the trap door like it was CG masked in.

That's not entirely true, though. When he was staring death in the face (and Mike's gun) last season, he was begging for his own life and was willing to kill off an innocent to preserve it. Walt has slowly become the most pathetic character on television.

Yessir.

Skyler wouldn't be in this situation if not for Walt and is incredibly idiotic ego.

But, that's what keeps things interesting, so keep bringing it, Walt!

Oh yeah, the reason Walt is in full meltdown mode is that his family is facing immediate death. Before it was his only his own life that was at risk.

anyone else get all giddy when you see Gus in regular clothes. Like almost there should be an applause sign up like when Kramer enters a room.

True that.

I think they've said the intention is to slowly whittle away all of Walt's redeeming qualities so he's not a sympathetic character in any way, and they're doing a hell of a job with that.

And I love the way that they've used Gus' evil overlord ability to demonstrate just how impotent Walt really is or would be as a kingpin. He's a legend in his own mind, completely out of his element.

I could be wrong but I thought he was completely calm when they were going to kill him. And yes he was willing to kill someone else to save both him and Jesse. I don't think Gale was necessarily an innocent. I thought that actually showed how calm and collected he truly was.

I do agree with your assesment that he has become very pathetic this season. But once again not because he is scared but because he has lost his handle on a lot of stuff. I believe that is all about to change though. The next two episodes should be wonderful. I believe that Walt will be on top once again. Maybe not but that is what I was getting from the previews for next week.

My guess is that Jesse takes out Gus when we all least expect it. Gus is beginning to trust Jesse, and now that Jesse will be taking Mike's place for a week or so, he will get the opportunity.

I agree, now that the White's can't run, something has to give. Jesse still has the ricin, he will give into his feelings of loyalty for Walter and do it. Which would leave the incompetent Walt at the helm. Should make for an interesting final season as Walt tries to evade Hank.

Very good guess, in my opinion. Jesse has repeatedly told Walt, "I'll do it." Jesse is also, still, holding his anger about the kid getting shot. I think they're doing a bait and switch. We see Gus "redeem" Jesse and assume that Jesse is grateful. At heart, though, Jesse is still holding the grudge over the murder of a child.

Edit: I'll add that I'd hate to see Gus die, as his character is the focal point of interest for me this season.

I just watched the highlights from season 3 here...

http://www.amctv.com/breaking-bad/vi...3-full-measure

Walt wasn't scared in the least when he thought he was about to die. He played it off like he was but as soon as he got his message out to Jesse about going to kill Gale he was as cool as they come.
