2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Seems to be a common trend with our last couple managers. I have no idea why.

Have we had a "holy crap Humberto Quintero is completely terrible and useless" rant lately? If not, please allow me.

Holy crap. Humberto Quintero is completely terrible and useless. I know he's just an injury replacement for Perez, and hopefully he will be gone as soon as Perez is back (however, I'm sure the Royals will send Pena down instead). I cannot for the life of me figure out why they ever thought it was a good idea to sign this turd in the first place. He has a career .268 OBP, which is completely unacceptable unless you have a ton of power and/or play great defense, neither of which remotely describes Humberto Quintero.

The man haphazardly tosses the ball to second base any time a runner is stealing. However, if you're on first base, watch the **** out, because Humberto's gonna try to pick you off every time. Mind you, he will never, ever, throw you out, but he'll damn sure remind you that he's keeping an eye on you. I don't have the official statistics with me, but I'm guessing he's roughly 0 for 126 on pickoff attempts this year.

Nice goatee, dumbass.

THIS.

I just don't feel like the guy is generally very bright - gives away far too many outs & runs for my taste. His in game "strategies" are probably strategies in name only.

I'm not saying I want a "tinker" like LaRussa, but having someone that showed some sense of urgency to win games through pitching changes and fundamental strategy would be nice.

Since your team lost 12 games to start the season, it'd be nice to show some intent to try and claw back to .500 by July.

Yeah, but with that Goatee alone, he's worth a roster spot, No? I mean, we are talking about the Royals, ya know.....

We need more Pena.

At least when we got up there to pinch hit he was hacking away.

I always bust up when JaQass pops out and yells something loudly in Spanish.

Idiot.

I think he is one of those guys that it is hard to get overly upset with because for one, as you said, he is a replacement, and also he does seem to genuinely care and try hard.

He does have a pretty good arm btw. The Royals are third in the majors and first in the AL with 21 caught stealing. Quintero is responsible for 12 of those playing a little over half the time.

He's not simply "a replacement." If he was just a AAA callup it'd be no thing. But the Royals TRADED for this piece of shit. They traded a fairly legit relief prospect for Quintero and the even-worse Jason Bourgeois.

Humberto, don't be a dumbfug, don't be a fool with the ball.
Humberto, don't be a dumbfug, just throw it back to the pitcher once in a while.
And as he started to throw, we said Humberto, you are an asshole.
Humberto, don't be a dumbfug, just throw it 60'6".
