The mother of all field trips...
So my youngest is 14, and just finished middle school. She has been doing Highland/Scottish dancing for almost 3 years. The Dunedin area we live in is sister cities with Stirling Scotland. The schools band and dancers wear kilts, play bagpipes, and are called the Scottish Highlanders. They have performed, and competed on many state levels, and my oldest daughter (who played the sousaphone in HS) played and competed with the a couple years ago on a trip to DC.
Well my youngest (Autumn) left for Scotland on Sunday morning. They touched down yesterday at 430 am here which is 930 am Scottish time. They are staying at Stirling university for 10 days and will be performing and competing against lots of Scottish students etc. I'm not sure how many other schools from the US got invited to compete in Scotland but I can't think it was a lot. On their itinerary is visiting, and performing at Edinburgh Castle, performing at the 500 anniversary of the battle of Stirling. Performing for the Duchess of Cambridge (swoon) as well as performing and competing in street festivals, and performing for food in the evenings among other things. It's truly a once in a lifetime trip.
We've been I'm contact with her a few times since they landed, and although it's colder there than here (70s-50s vs 90s-80s) but she's having a blast so far. She busted her butt to make this possible. Learning lots of new dances, as well as keeping her grades on honor roll level. I've never even been on an airplane, and she's in another country, lol. When I was a kid the only field trip I even remember was to the Hostess bakery. I'm sure when she returns she will have tons of pics and stories to share. I'll make sure to post some pics on here if anyone is interested. I'm just proud of her, and missing her.
