The flagship basketball program in the Big 12 is Kansas, and they have been knocked out of final fours twice in the recent past by teams on that list (who won the championship).

In the past 11 years, three teams on that list have won basketball titles. There is simply no comparison that it would be a better basketball conference. It's not even close.

Football is debatable. Texas has been down, but they are historically a strong program. Nebraska is similar in that regard, but Nebraska's modern success is much greater than that of Texas.

Oklahoma has been strong, but they are in danger of no longer being an elite program. aTm has been a good but not great program in recent history, but they have the brightest near future of any team in the bunch.

Louisville is clearly on the rise...very similar to Oklahoma State in that regard.

Overall, I would give a slight edge to the Big 12 as a football conference today, but those movers may have more upside down the road.

All in all, the Big 12 is a slightly better football conference, and the movers would be a much better basketball conference.
Starting with basketball I do agree that Louisville has a seat at the table with the big boys after finally breaking through with a title this year. Pitino is a guy that most of us end up rooting for but their recent recruiting classes do not compare to Kansas. I would rank them overall the second best program on this list with both Oklahoma State and Syracuse fighting for the 3rd place. Kansas State will continue to move forward as well.

Football isn't comparable. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State all have been in the BCS in the last three years with Texas back on the upward trend in both performance on the field and recruiting. Having $40 million more than any other team in college athletics doesn't hurt their chances.

Again Louisville is really the only relevant program from the movers side. (With the exception of TCU and WVU which we are including in the discussion). Texas A&M is interesting so we will see what happens with them but it's hard to take a program with a 15-19 bowl record all that seriously until we see some sustained success. No doubt they had a good year last year but they don't belong in the same category as the Big 12 football schools.

Oklahoma State and Syracuse are not fighting for the number 2 spot. That's just silly.

As far as your "three Big 12 teams have made BCS bowls in the past 3 years" statement...they HAVE to. Conference champions get auto bids. If the movers were in a single conference, their conference champion would also have received an auto bid. That's a terrible argument.

The top rated team on either list coming into next year will be aTm. The next will be Louisville.

Teams that move don't win their league. This is really the most common thread through all the teams on that list.

Also, Texas A&M is 5-12 in bowls since 1990. We all have great seasons once in a while.

You're arguing with fans who gave Alabama a standing ovation at Mizzou Arena in January after the BCS win. You know, for winning Missouri's first national title in football.

Well yeah. I mean, teams move into better leagues. That pretty much stands to reason.

And I'm arguing with guys whose team has to practice celebrating a conference win because they don't have anyone on their entire roster who has ever started a game that ended with a win over an actual conference opponent.

You talk about football programs headed in opposite directions.

Missouri is on the threshold of greatness, nailing down its third division title in four years.

Football can no longer be taken seriously at Kansas. Jayhawks simply can't compete at this level of competition.

KU has been outscored 159-24 in the last three games. Break that down, they're losing by an average score of 53-8 over that period.

Meanwhile, Missouri is the only undefeated team in the Big 12. Not only are the Tigers favorites to become conference champs after knocking off Oklahoma, Missouri is now a legitimate contender to play for a national championship. Yes, the Tigers are that good.

The KU Athletic Department is a mess. New head coach Turner Gill is treading water. He's in over his head. It’s not working.

And the KU Athletic Department is still being investigated by the FBI and IRS.

I'm calling on the chancellor at Kansas, to do everything in her power to drop football…just do away with the sport and all the embarrassment it has brought to the university.

Yeah. He's reeruned. Using him as a reference...not smart.

The Kansas fans in this thread source opinions of Jack Harry and Kevin Kietzman. Good job...good effort. You should practice celebrating in case you ever make a winning argument.

"look out". College Football royalty right there.
What's interesting is the last re-alignment was several Big East basketball schools bolting from their football brethren to form a hoops-only league. The "Catholic League" will get $4M for hoops only vs $2M for the slugs that play football in the latest Big East.

GH: I have been on Missouri since August for their placid acceptance of being the SEC’s lapdog. Paul Finebaum started making fun of the Tigers on his satellite radio show and every other SEC school joined in the fun. When Alabama came to Mizzou Arena for hoops the PA announcer congratulated them on their national title.

Was the standing ovation right before that or right after that? I forget...must have been delirious from all the standing and cheering...
