Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

Yep but, believe it or not it has gotten better. Last year it was horrific. It will be one of the big knocks on the guy going into the draft. I got killed when I said this two months ago.

That's bullshit.

His footwork or "happy feet" is due to him keeping them shoulder width and under him the whole time in the pocket. When he throws he's nearly always firmly planted.

Go watch Mark Sanchez or Jimmy Clausen in college if you want to see what real happy feet look like.

Smith is simply keeping his feet under him and squared to his body. Completely different than true "happy feet."

Maybe it's a good thing if Geno slips a bit and Barkley becomes the #1 prospect. That way, all the pressure isn't on the Chiefs to get the #1 pick. If we can get Geno at #2 or #3...that's a good thing. Let Jacksonville get Barkley with the #1 pick. That way, we can still beat Denver's ass one time and not feel bad about it (if you would have felt bad about it in the first place lol).

He chops and hops, just like you're supposed to. He keeps those feet firing and flips his hips through to get to his reads.

Smith is young and doesn't always plant that back foot and fire because, well, that's what young quarterbacks do. It takes some time to get the balls to stand in there and deliver instead of fading back and getting popped. In HS, that was always good enough for him. In College it's usually good enough for him. This is what you see from very talented young QBs - they almost brace for that his as they throw because their arms let them get away with it.

In the pros he'll learn and improve in that aspect. It'll burn him on occasion, but I see no reason why he can't get past it. His footwork is otherwise solid.

Yeah, I was about to say. Bullshit on him not planting and throwing. He does it better than any QB since Eli Manning coming out of college, and yes that INCLUDES Andrew Luck.

And I'd add to those two an incredibly quick release and a high point of release. He also keeps his eyes downfield all the time no matter the pressure on him in the pocket.

He also can make every throw at any part of the field. (Which is the main problem I have with Barkley - he'll wind up on deep throws where he requires accuracy. He's going to have to be in a set WC type system a la Alex Smith to be really successful at the next level, and, to be honest, I want a guy who can flick that sumbitch and hit a covered guy in stride fifty yards deep, not a ****ing five/ten yard dink and dunk West Coast suck my boring ass balls system.)

He's got a ton of stuff you want to see out of a potential high level NFL QB in his game right now.

His upside is huge and he's more NFL game ready than anybody in this draft at the position.

Luck threw on the move better than Smith does, IMO.

One of the most incredible things about Luck was that he could roll out, keep his eyes downfield and fire a freakin' strike. Smith isn't nearly as good in that regard.

Luck wasn't asked to stand in there and fire in the face of pressure very often because Harbaugh had the luxury of knowing he could roll him out without losing effectiveness and generally did so.

I don't Smith is as consistent about it as you do, but I do agree that it's not a liability of his. You consider it among his great assets, it appears. I don't, but I certainly don't think he's bad about it by any means.

While you can't exactly give him a pass on the last few games where he hasn't played well, you can put some of it on the system and defense.

I still like him as a prospect but he does have some question marks. His decision making has been questionable at best. Might be due to the fact that he has had to score on every possession cause his defense is a sieve but it has def not been up to par

Just say no to Geno Smith.............. He is not even close to being as good as RG3 but everyone seems to think so. He had a couple good games against crap teams. He is not worth the pick. I want BARKLEY.

I absolutely agree. I'm talking about planting and throwing, not throwing on the run.

That's a little bit of a hitch in Geno's game. On the run. It's good, but that's when his fine throwing technique breaks down ever so slightly. He needs to do exactly what he does when he stands and delivers in the pocket.
