Paper Sack of Doom, I <3 You

And I hate wasps taking over my patio enjoyment. It's buzzy creature time in KC and I have tried a few conventional products the past two years in effort to rid my patios of yellow jackets, not much success.

I'm a transplant here, don't know too much about the environment in KC, but I am learning.

Sick of it all a few weeks ago, I dedicated some google surf time to see if there was any other ways to get rid of stingy pests I'm also allergic to. I found a few posts on various websites explaining how to prep/hang a fake hornets nest using a paper bag.

My situation here may be somewhat unique -- I am in a four story apt building, it's a restoration project and there is plenty of exterior work left to do on the building. So, there is rot around window casings and soffits where mites like to feast, and this sets in motion nature's food-chain reaction around my place and the patios, setting the stage for plenty of bug eating wasps.

I was skeptical. It's been 3 plus weeks using this method of hanging paper bags to repel wasps and it is still working flawlessly. In fact, the small storm last week blew one of the sacks down and within hours I was sword fighting a wasp. Damn, folks, I've never seen such large yellow jackets as you have here in KC.

So, if you have this problem, try hanging a paper sack and let me know if it works for you.

A production note; cut the bag top to bottom on one side only, crumple it and then invert it so the logo ink isn't on the outside. The more wrinkles, the better. The idea is to mimic a hornets nest. Not that I know what one looks like, but I saw shot from other folks and comments were made about wrinkling the surface to fake the wasps out.

I used duct tape to hang it on the balcony roof in a few areas. Done & done.

take blue pill if repost.

nice! Although I don't like the idea of a paper bag hanging on my deck... I'm getting sick of wasps flying around me and my kids while we are trying to enjoy some fresh air.

Hanging a paper bag? Like an entire paper bag? LOLWUT?

Just leave them alone, and they'll leave you alone. You don't have to decorate your home like a hobo shanty. I've never had a problem with them at all.....

That is reminds me of trailer park people throwing tires on the roof to keep the roof down in the wind and people that put aluminum foil in their windows.

The KC suburbs are definitely very waspy. Probably need to move closer to downtown or midtown if you're looking for a little diversity.

River Market is wasp-free as far as I can tell.

perhaps I have touched a painful nerve triggered by childhood ..

The sack is reduced in sized after crumpling, to softball size. This can be done easier if it is lightly misted using a spray bottle. The shape can be retained after dry. Tape can be used to secure shape, but cut the tape into strand size.

The strategic placement of it is not noticeable, it should be attached to a soffit and not really in plain view.

I am using one bag building side, the other is in back. The wasps make their way to the building from an area near the back corner of the property where trees are.

Hardly the sight of tires on a roof or tin foiled windows.
