****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

He was Franklin. Calm, steady. Made some great plays with his legs on key third downs.

I really like the consistency of the offense with him running it. Hopefully, Mauk can add some of that to his big-play ability.

When the WRs are getting separation, Franklin runs forward (often for a first down), while Mauk spins backwards and runs to the sideline.

Franklin's only real miscue last night was throwing off of his backfoot into triple coverage once. INT.

He was okay, but he was really throwing lollipops...even for him. He scrambled for a first down on a third and seven in the third quarter that made me say "we've got this". He has a will that really shows through when he is running people over...especially on the money plays when we need it most.

He was amazing on the first play of the game. Our RB missed a block, and a DT fired through untouched at Franklin. James just shook him off, ran towards the line like he was going to scramble, and then found a wide open WR over the middle. It was one of the best plays he's ever made.

Mauk got a series in the second quarter and made, quite possibly, the most impressive throw I've ever seen a Mizzou QB make. He also got screwed out of a TD pass on that drive.

That throw was impressive. Absolute bullet. Mauk's arm strength rivals Blaine Gabbert, I think.

Notre Same is really going to regret slow playing Mauk in favor of Gunnar Kiel.

Yeah, its too bad he didn't have time to step into that throw. Think it might have been 6 if he did.

Gabbert has a bigger arm, but he couldn't figure out how to use it.

Totally forgot about Kiel. Interesting how that all played out. On a related note, I don't care for ND snooping around our current commits (like Williams).

He visited last weekend and came away lukewarm in the Rivals report I read tonight about it.

He's visiting Mizzou again for Saturday's tilt with Johnny Football, I think. Hopefully Kony Ealy shows him a good time. REMARKABLY similar recruits, though Kony was rated more highly.

Long, lean athletes with freakish athletic ability, from small schools. Hoops players primarily until junior year of HS. Extremely raw.

I'd guess Williams might need a redshirt year and then some before he starts to get it, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he ends up being the best DE at Mizzou in recent memory.

Yes, better than Aldon Smith.

I think they hang on to him.

Way too much revisionist history with Gabbert. He had multiple throws in his first college start that were better than the skinny post Mauk hit.

Funny thing about Gabbert is that while he was a first rounder, he looks to be the worst start QB for Mizzou so far in the Pinkel era.

Plus, it's Mizzou. Never, ever discount that fact. There was far too much counting of chickens after the Florida game.

I could see this team winning a ten point game, I could see them getting blown out, and I could see them blowing another multiple score lead in the most heartbreaking fashion possible.

I've been too traumatized by this team to expect anything else.
Look...I don't disagree that MU has it's own history of stumbling, but for some reason this team seems different than most. This team has all the parts to play that one complete game that they have not this year. Everyone keeps predicting (each game mind you) that "this game" MU will be exposed and when that doesn't happen, the talking heads say the very same thing about the next game. And guess what.....MU keeps playing on. They have the one loss in OT to a good SC team, but quite frankly maybe that loss has done more for the psyche for this team than being undefeated at this time.

I'm gun-shy no different than you or everyone else.....but I choose to look at this season to be one of the most enjoyable I have seen MU have in years. This was supposed to be a year when MU was going to stumble again, people were planning Pinkel's successor (rightfully so at the time) and we were losing recruits we should have locked.

Now, here we are at the door of possibly going to the CCG....I can choose to look at this game and say this is probably where we falter, or I can say, you know what, this team has surprised me all year, so I owe them a little faith in the team.

I choose the latter.
