The ww2 stuff is meh. War time, and is "jap" really that bad"? Not sure how the posters were supposed to address the war enemy. Seems no worse than us calling the Germans "krauts"

Good Lord, somehow missed this thread a while back... they're all bad, but the ones depicting blacks are just over the top outrageous, wow.

Does anyone remember Sambos? In Pensacola back in the 70's after going out at Triple Decker Big Daddy's we would all hit Sambos for breakfast. Ate there many times, mostly drunk. I just looked them up and they had over 1100 restaurants by 1979 but went bankrupt in 1981 when a lot of towns stopped allowing the use of the name.

I'm surprised that someone didn't come up with the innovative suggestion of changing the name. It's not as if pancakes and sausage are racist.

Really? So maybe it would have required a name and decor change.

I remember them as a small child, and my family did eat there occasionally. I don't remember any racist stuff, but as a kid I probably wouldn't have really noticed it. I just thought it was the same thing as Denny's.

It was almost a Jungle Book theme, big lipped blacks playing with elephants and lions among the forest tree's etc.
