Chiefs' Player Jevon Belcher involved in murder-suicide, shoots self at Arrowhead

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

I will admit I was wrong on one point I was making. I do believe that head trauma could be a reasonable "excuse" for certain behavior. I know that many soldiers come home with PTSD and head trauma that effect them very greatly. Though alot of those soldiers kill themselves and not someone else.

There is making an observation that someone is not dealing well with their grief and then there is straight up judging and throwing them to the lions.

The guy pumped 9 bullets into his girlfriends body in front of his mom and child, got in a car and drove at a high rate of speed (putting more people in danger) to the Chiefs training facility to do who knows what. Then offs himself when the cops show up.

There is no excuse for what he did and there really is no excuse for the Chiefs Organization to have any Belcher related items anywhere. He should be cleansed from the organization and his name should never be repeated again.

So can I ask you, how do you view the Founding Father,specifically Thomas Jefferson and George Washington? Does their heinous acts outweigh the good that they did?

Our current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.

In the coming days, Belcher’s actions will be analyzed through the lens of concussions and head injuries. Who knows? Maybe brain damage triggered his violent overreaction to a fight with his girlfriend. What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.


That is the message I wish Chiefs players, professional athletes and all of us would focus on Sunday and moving forward. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.

But we won’t. We’ll watch Sunday’s game and comfort ourselves with the false belief we’re incapable of the wickedness that exploded inside Jovan Belcher Saturday morning.

That would depend on the facts of the case that we still don't know. Was this manslaughter or was this premeditated?
