Free agent Chris Canty visiting the Kansas City Chiefs

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/2...as-city-chiefs

Does free agent Chris Canty spark your interest? The New York Giants released the defensive lineman last week and now he's visiting the Kansas City Chiefs. This according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today:

Mike Garafolo @MikeGarafolo

Btw, former Giants DT Chris Canty visited the Titans over the weekend and will now meet with the Chiefs. Could be more visits coming.

Interesting. Very interesting. You know what position Canty played in New York? Right defensive end, same as Glenn Dorsey, who is of course a free-agent-to-be on March 12. We haven't heard rumblings as to whether Dorsey will be back but the general thinking outside the team is that he won't be. There's also the issue of the large sum of money that's due to Tyson Jackson.

Solid player, but a bit overrated. 19 sacks in 10 years doesn't exactly scream pass-rush specialist.

He's a very good all-around 1-gap DL.

If we sign him people are going to love him after 4 years of bullshit 2-gap mudders.

He can actually get off a ****ing block.

When did you ever read shit like this about Jackson or Dorsey?

Quote:
Strength up the Middle

Had Chris Canty (+3.4) not left the game due to an injury, the Giants might have fared better in slowing down the Baltimore offense. He played just 24 snaps in his customary DRT position, but recorded a QB hurry in eight pass rushes and managed five stops in run defense – tied for the team-high. He had a particularly impressive stretch early in the second quarter, when at 11:40, he stoned Ravens guard Jah Reid at the point of attack and disengaged to assist on a tackle for short gain. A few plays later, he knifed into the backfield for consecutive tackles for losses on Bernard Pierce, the second one for a seven yard loss. This was a nice change of pace for a player who’s generally done better as a pass rusher in his career; it’s just unfortunate that he couldn’t make it through the game.
Quote:
Another Pass Rusher Emerges

Perhaps lost amid the 6-2 record, the Giants pass rush has not been as dominant as their reputation suggests. The high-profile defensive ends have not provided consistent pressure, though New York has gotten surprising production from their defensive tackles and Chris Canty was the latest interior player to produce on Sunday. In only his second game of the season, Canty graded at +3.4, including +2.9 as a pass rusher. He hit quarterback Tony Romo four times while adding a sack on his 32 pass rushes. Left guard Nate Livings was Canty’s main victim as he surrendered three of the hits on Romo, before Canty beat him to the outside shoulder to finally notch a sack with 00:54 to go in the third quarter.

That shouldn't stop us from drafting an ILB at some point, but Barnett could be a very good addition.
So is Barnett.

Barnett's been through so many injuries. It'd be like when the Wolves signed Brandon Roy to shore up their SG depth.

canty is probably a solid stop gap assuming we're shedding at least one of dorsey/jackson...

but given the number of vets we've brought in the last couple of years who have done jack shit, i'm not going to get too excited..

Did he drop weight?

At least this one might be worth a shit. A formerly high-profile player on a Super Bowl team is better than the Raiders starting CB that they didn't want anymore, all in a money-saving grab to make up for Carr.

I always thought he was light. I don't remember though.

Besides, I'm not worried about him weighing anywhere from 230-240. Lighter ILBs who can cover are much more necessary than 250-270 ILBs who blow people up. You need 1 of those guys on the roster but he doesn't need to be starting especially considering how often teams throw out of base personnel anyways. IMO
