The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Very true.

That considered he wouldn't be starting this year anyway, and shouldn't be. I know the modern NFL fan feels every 1st round QB should start from day 1 but that's just not always the case.

In fact it's NEVER been the case until the last 3 years.

Smith is paid for. Any 1st round QB has at minimum 1 year to sit and learn before the ORG would be willing to move on...

I do agree.

Call Jax immediately and offer them Hali for #33. They can take the LT of their choice #2 and get pro bowl pass rusher for their 2nd round pick.

Even if Geno sucks, it won't change the fact that we overpaid for Chase Daniel and completely created a market and drove said market to over paying for Average Smith.

If Geno turns out really good to great it's just salt in the wound. Otherwise known as the KC way!

Hali is a super enthusiastic bringer-upper for rookie players, too. Justin Houston has thrived playing across from him.

If you draft Jordan, then please keep Hali a year, then try to restructure and trade.

I don't think they should draft Jordan unless they're convinced he can be a full time, impact starter now.

What I meant by maximizing the return on Hali was that getting a 2013 pick for him is worth more than getting the same 2014 pick for him later. The only reason to keep him around would be if you think Jordan needs a year to get up to speed, to fill out some special situational packages, or as insurance against injury.

I don't think they should be so desperate to trade Hali immediately that they give him up in fire sale fashion, but I do think they should be looking for an opportunity immediately.

We better hope to God that the Eagles want to trade up for Jordan. Or maybe the Lions want to trade up for a LT. ****.....anyone at this point.

Again, Why? Why move the guy that is going to be the franchise LT for years to come from his natural position to RT for 1 year, then move him back?

Yeah I dont think they'll be tagging him again. I just hope something can be worked out by then.

I don't either. But everyone seems to think we draft a franchise LT and move him to RT for a year. I just don't see that as a very smart move. If Albert is on the way out, and we are stuck with him for the year, move Albert. Who cares if he does not want to move. If he has a problem, play one of the other guys at RT.
