****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

Pretty much.

The broad view is a tough one...young QB getting thrown into the hardest conference in the land.

Some of the smaller things are nice. This offensive line for the most part has proved itself to be pretty good. He has a ton of playmakers around him. Even though he is starting against a set of very good teams that is 3 games at home...the run of games at home I think is really going to help things.

I'm not as bummed as some people are I guess. Franklin was a nice player, I'm sorry to see it end this way for him, but Mauk was going to be the future at QB anyway... so the future is now.

We're bowl eligible, we have a pretty favorable schedule coming up... is it scary to play the whole SEC schedule with a freshman QB? Sure, but if you were going to, this is probably the year.

Mauk's not the foregone starter next year, Eddie Prinz very well may beat him out. I haven't seen enough of either to have a clearly defined opinion other than seeing Prinz throw it just enough to say he looks the part.

That said, Mauk looked very green yesterday and understandably so, he is green! The one thing that is very important is that he has his first two starts at home to get his feet wet. Fla struggled to score yesterday hopefully that bodes well. I expect Mauk to struggle due to inexperience and facing one of if not the best defense in the nation next week. Everyone else must pick up their game. It's still a game MU can compete in provided they take care of the ball.

Tigers were impressive yesterday.

Well said from RockMNation I agree.

http://www.rockmnation.com/2013/10/1...analysis-video
Missouri just blew open the SEC East. The only question is whether they sunk their own chances to win the division in the process.

The Tigers took a huge lead against Georgia in the first half, then gave most of it up early in the second half, only to break the game open and break the division narratives with a 13-point run that put things out of reach. Left in a thousand pieces all over the field were the Dawgs' national title hopes and any semblance of a consensus about who claims the SEC East title from here.

South Carolina was ripping apart Arkansas in Fayetteville at the same time, and Florida was kicking off against LSU just a few moments after Missouri iced its win. But the Tigers have already done something that South Carolina failed to do and Florida hasn't done yet: Beat Georgia. If nothing else, that gives them a bit of the edge in the race for Atlanta.

But, then there's the little matter of James Franklin being taken off the field in the second half, and returning to the sidelines in street clothes. There are only so many times you can use a Maty Mauk to Bud Sasser to L'Damian Washington double pass to get a critically needed touchdown, which is exactly what Missouri did after Franklin left with the Tigers only leading 28-26. Franklin wasn't all-world in this game, but he was good -- 18-of-27, 170 yards and a touchdown passing, and a rushing touchdown -- and Missouri would like him to be health. Perhaps he is.

I agree, the key is if Mauk can play mistake free like Franklin, I don't feel as confident as I would like too about this.

What a game and what a bittersweet day.

On one hand, we see Missouri make a BIG statement. I don't care that Georgia was without stars on offense. That is still a team playing with a great QB - the best in the SEC, IMO - and great athletes at the skill spots.

That Georgia offensive line is still fantastic, and the Missouri defensive line more than held its own. Georgia was able to gash it a beat with some spread option runs, but the Tigers DL is for real. It held up well against pro-styling running and consistently put pressure on Murray.

Michael Sam, Kony Ealy, Markus Golden, Shane Ray... the Tigers have top-line SEC quality and depth at DE. And are surprisingly effective in the middle, where they aren't playing a single key player (Matt Hoch, Lucas Vincent, Harold Brantley, Josh Augusta) who won't be back a year from now.

Missouri faced some adversity and came through it. It won this game without its best defensive player (or at least more irreplaceable) in EJ Gaines for 3 quarters, and without its best offensive player for the decisive 4th quarter.

This team took a tremendous flurry of punches in the 3rd quarter, and the just came back from them in the 4th and took care of business.

Josh Henson looks like a true star at OC. YEs, the Georgia defense is not good, but Henson's playcalling clearly befuddled the Bulldogs for much of the day, and he showed balls of fricking steel to call the WR option when he did. Head coach in waiting could be happening before our eyes.

And finally, on to Maty Mauk. It sucks that Franklin is down, because of how calm and in control he has been. But Mauk has legitimate potential in his own right. I'm confident you'll see more from him than the Tigers got from Corbin Berkstresser a year ago. It's going to be all about how quickly he can acclimate to the speed. He has the physical ability to be effective and is a confident kid.

If Missouri can get through the next two games 1-1, it will be in the race in the SEC East and probably be playing for the division against Texas A&M later this year.

If it manages to sweep Florida and South Carolina - a tall but do-able task - Missouri will be almost impossible for Florida and South Carolina to catch. At that point, Georgia would need the Tigers to lose TWO of the four games against Tennesee (Home), @Kentucky, @Ole Miss and aTm. South Carolina and Florida would need the Tigers to lose THREE of those four games.

All on Mauk. We'll see how he responds.

I've felt like Shane Ray was lining up in the neutral zone a lot this year, so I wasn't surprised.

Gotta clean that up.

One of my friends is a Bulldog fan...we had a friendly wager on yesterdays game...when we chatted after the game he was remarking about how our DE's and interior D-Line were stout and pretty much controlled the line save for that one period where they got to us. He pretty much attributed Murray's being off all day long to him always feeling like he had to look over his shoulder after being hit for that fumble.

When I was chatting with this same guy I told him I thought this game might have been a little different had they not been without their starters at RB & WR. His answer....screw that! He said every team plays with injuries and it's part of the game. The guys who are next in line should step up and fill the void...he also was pissed that they let us come into their home and pretty much punch them in the mouth and set the tone all day.

To be honest I was worried about having him as the OC at the start of this year. Now...thru these 6 games it is highly evident that he is more than capable. It took a big set of cajones to call that Mauk-to-Sasser-to-Washington play especially considering the circumstances. I could never see us doing that with the prior OC(I won't let his name pass my lips)

You know...we shouldn't let ourselves have any more excuses than we allow Georgia to have. We have a strong O-Line, a strong set of RB's and WR's who should help out Mauk. The kid can run, just like Franklin could, and we know he can pass. They need to teach him to throw the ball up and make Washington and Green-Beckham be the physical receivers they can be. Everyone just needs to do their job like before and let Henson and Franklin tutor Mauk thru this short learning curve.
