Chiefs vs. Jets Week 1

It seems like when we played the Jets week 1 that our defense was unleashed and all over the field. We had 3 sacks, 1 int. and DJ had 9 tackles. I remember thinking to myself that the defense looked awesome and DJ was attacking the QB with the old DT tomahawk chop. Our defense utterly destroyed their game plan and looked as if they could not be stopped. Ever since that game I never saw the defense in the attacking mode like that. Why ? Did Gunther or Dick think they were taking too many chances and try to run a more disciplined defense and control the players more after that. After that game DJ should have had a year that would have gotten him ROTY honors. He never really had a standout game after that. I just wonder if he was not being allowed to use his natural play making ability and utilized in a way that was degrading his performance. This comes to mind after the Texas/USC game last night when the commentators many times refered to DJ of last year and how he caused all those fumbles and reaked havoc on the opponents. I've been all for GUN staying our DC and we have put a stop to the run since he's been back, but maybe change would'nt be bad. A GOOD coach or manager finds their strenghs in their personnel and utilizes that. What do you guys think ?

Some good points. I would really have to go back and watch that game again. I don't really remember much about it.

Our D looked pretty good against Buffalo and Houston as well. The common denominator is none of the three teams had an offense that could compete against even a mediocre college team. Don't forget Pennington was throwing ducks all game long. It was obvious early he wasn't going to beat us throwing the ball.

What do you find ridiculous about it? All three teams were in the bottom 5 of the league in offense. All three teams averaged less than 260 yds per game of offense. LJ damn near put up 260 yeards per game by himself.
