Woman leaves ‘single mom sorry’ tip on $138 bill

A photo of a receipt allegedly left by a single mother at a restaurant has gone viral after it was posted on Reddit.

The bill, which shows a charge of $138.35, has a note that reads “single mom sorry” on the tip line – implying whoever signed the bill did not have enough money to tip the waiter or waitress.

The caption with the photo on Reddit reads: “I’m sure $140 could have gotten you and your kids a week worth of groceries, but instead you spend it one one meal?! For shame!”

by not eating there again. the server didn't make the food, create the menu, or purchase the ingredients. Poor service reflects on the server. Poor food reflects on the rest of the restuarant. I go to places like bw3 to watch college ball once in a while. It's a sports bar, so I expect sports bar food. I'm not gonna screw the server because the schlep flipping burgers doesn't know how to make shitty beef taste good.

ok, maybe the server is throwing a tantrum, but it doesn't justify this customer running up a $138 tab, then trying to claim she is too hard up for money to leave a tip at all. that gives justification to the melt down, and honestly, if it were me things would have gone further. i might have lost my job over it. i guarantee this server remembers the customer's face, and if she tries to come back to the establishment, she will receive terrible service. in this country, tips are expected for good service, and if the service was great, like the note says, there is no excuse for this.

Minimum tip and not coming back is probably the most sensible response here. I'm not taking my time to call a manager over or fill out some sort of form.

Well, the only concern here is that I'm almost always able to comp a part of my customer's ticket if they bring the issue up with me. I suppose I'm just passionate about this issue because we had a batch of new cooks about a year ago who were producing unsatisfactory dishes a couple times during each of my shifts, but whenever this circumstance arises, I always do whatever within my ability to make sure that the problem is addressed for the customer.

A lot of other ways. Of course depends on your problem with the place. If it is an attitude customer treatment type issue that is isolated to the server then yes do the no or little tip thing.

However there are often a lot of things that come up that are out of the servers hands.

It'd be like SOC directing their ire at the guys who collect money for parking instead of Pioli.

Sure, often times they don't. Also, most of them are too young to work so they just simply don't know the value of a dollar or about tipping in general. For that, I look at them like I do foreigners. It pisses me off that I get stiffed by them, but in the end, they're just ignorant to the whole process.
