*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I did. Surf and Surf was a favorite. Shrimp and cod.

Sometimes Surf and Turf, with the turf being grilled chicken.

Shrimp is awesome for cutting. It's almost entirely fat-free protein. Expensive, though.

Expensive yes, dangerous if you don't learn how to do it and lift properly. Don't really know what you mean by that last statement.

I only do it twice a week and regular gym the other days. That's the best combination for me and my age. If if would have been around 25 years ago, I would have been really into it. The people that I know, that take it seriously do very well with it. One guy that I know is an big time ex NFL player, he doesn't compete, but loves it and said the same thing about it as I did. He's told me numerous times that he's in the best shape of his life and that's saying a lot!

It can be dangerous even IF you know how to do it properly. Olympic lifts weren't meant to be done at high rep ranges. Not all Crossfit gyms allow their lifters to do this, and I commend them for it. It's a great way to get injured.

Last statement: "I'm in the best shape of my life!" You don't have to do Crossfit to look great and perform well in everything you want to do.

You can also get in the best shape of your life with appropriate programming for lifting (strength progression) and a mix of cardio added in. All this without the limited progression of strength exercises and poor programming of Crossfit and decreased injury risk of doing high technique strength exercises like cleans and snatches for high reps. Seriously, that last sentence in and of itself makes Crossfit look reeruned.

No one has ever been paralyzed from doing Olympic lifts for decades until some Crossfiter happens to accomplish this feat a few months ago. Yea, chew on that.

Cheat meal. I had spaghetti AND an apple fritter. I feel so....blah. Looking forward to getting to the gym tomorrow.

However, I did do a 5k this morning, and then went straight to the gym for leg day. But I just feel like I've undone all of that.

Carb crash incoming, luv. You'll sleep well.

And FYI, you didn't undo shit. You didn't gain an ounce of fat with all that physical activity.

The fact you think you did, though, is a good thing. You want that discipline. GET BACK IN LINE FATTY. AND NOT THE ONE FOR PIZZA.

All I can do is tell you my experience and the people I know. I agree mostly on the Olympics lifts and high reps, however they are usually lighter weights on those. I choose the days to go based on the workouts that best fit me and get some of the best workouts that I've ever done. I hate cardio and the boring ass hamster wheels! CF is a great combination of weights and intensity, kinda like 2-a-days in football. I've been working out for 30 years and have done most ever kind of workout imaginable. It works for me.

Hit some pushups before you go to bed.

You've got the right mentality.

No you don't have to do Crossfit to get in shape and look good. I know the guy pretty well and what all he's accomplished. He's probably had some of the best trainers in the world for many years. That says a lot.
