The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

You've got to be able to explain your moves to the team's owner.

It's really, really hard to explain trading away multiple picks to land a tackle at 1.1.

That Dorsey has used every means necessary to gauge which teams want to add a starting left tackle, while saying multiple times that he wants to keep Albert in KC to be the left tackle?

Dangling Albert out there could be an elaborate way of gauging which teams want a LT but don't have a pick high enough to snag one of the three top guys...possibly so that he can get a market built up of teams that want to instead trade up for the top pick at a discount.

I mean, to me that seems to indicate they aren't as interested in replacing Albert as much as the media thinks.

I stand by my thinking that we trade EITHER BA or 1.1, and it is going to be with either Miami, Arizona, or Detroit.

We need to protect our investment [Tannehil, Stafford, Palmer].

There are no options for that where we[Miami -1.12, Det. - 1.5, Arizona - 1.7] are currently drafting.

BA is expensive as shit and will ruin our salary cap, but he's an option. Or we move up with KC, Jax, or Oak and take a LT.

This has got to be one of the dumber things someone could say in the context of rumors that several teams are scrambling all over each other to trade up to 1.1 to draft a LT.

I thought the original line of thought was KC was actively shopping Albert to show Branden what is his true market value is and then his agent and him would lower the price tag because no one would pay him what he's asking for.

I can't read this whole thread, but what I'm gathering, it seems like the Branden Albert trade rumors have been one big fat smokescreen. If our FO went thru all that we've been reading, dancing and parading BA around and letting everyone think we want Joker or Fischer, and in reality, they want BA and get multiple picks for 1.1, well, that was on e helluva way to play Aces. I can't wait o see the river card....
