Gunther has stated that we want to go with a youth movement this year. Alot of us cried for that very same thing. Well, we saw some of that youth tonight.

Or is it coaching?
Or is it play-calling?
Or over all lack of effort and enthusiasm?

Certainly the 3 turnovers by the 3 rookies was a result of the youth movement. I'm willing to deal with those in preseason. The thing that really concerns me is the play of our starting Defense. We just can't stop teams on third down...Where is the Defense? Why can't we tackle?? These aren't the kids not tackling this is the first teamers! Oh well...we'd better get it solved in the next week...

I have to agree the 1st Defense has shown nothing during pre-season. They're particularly weak in the backfield but I was shocked that the line was so ineffective. Is McGlockton that vital to the D-Line?

Another thing, will Kimble Anders be cut?

AZ--

That was my point--Glock didn't play tonight: Defense played like crap tonight.

Connection?

Sorry if I didn't make that clear in the earlier post...

I should have stressed '1st Defense was very poor--Was it the absence of Chet?'

I've had a few since the kick-off...

I assume that we'll improve when Chet returns. Chet does fill up a lot of space inside. We need to get pressure on that QB and tighten up that secondary.

Unlike some, I do believe that Chet is an important part of our D.

To me though, tonights 1st Team D problems looked more like mental breakdowns than anything else.

Yes, I know, the tackling could and should have been better, but in fairness, the TD by Alstott was awsom and our guys just didn't get a clean hit on him.

I am hoping that the breakdowns are due to a lack of gameplanning. If that's not the case, then I just don't know what to think.

Luz - Minor rib injury, should play next week. Brings to mind though, what if it were more serious. A lot of people don't like him, but without him, we are looking at 3-13 or worse. If we don't come together, we may still do that bad.

KCRed,

Thanks for the info, and I agree.

We need him.

For some reason (that hasn't been observable the last couple of weeks) I still have a lot of faith in Elvis.

Yes, yes and yes.

This was the most pathetic preseason I've ever witnessed. I know these games don't count... but damn, you'd think we'd have some positives. All i've seen are four horrid outings by a group of disinterested, overpaid jerks. The coaching staff obviously has no control over these players -- and I can understand why: the players have no faith in our coaching staff! (At least, that's what I'm beginning to see)

If Gun doesn't do something real soon, we're going to be b*tching about our lop-sided season opening loss... followed by b*tching about our horrible season & 'the even year' curse. The winds of change are starting to whip up...

HC - I see the same things you do, no cohesion other than the OL, our defense is a total disaster, can you imagine, Manning, James and Harrison (ouch). I have my doubts about even a .500 record, but I will go into that the end of next week, when we all make predictions.

As pitiful as the game looked first hand, I did see some positives. Frank Moreau is a KEEPER. Cloud looked good too. OLine performs to usual high standards. I think a lot of the breakdowns on third down has to do with us blitzing and playing zone. If you're gonna blitz, ya gotta bump. Zone SUCKS IMHO. Now, as to MY cuts....Sheehee - cut, C. Gray - cut, DUH DUH - cuuuutttt! Those 3 in particular didn't show me doodly squat...... (I wonder if we can cut JRaye and Stock...)

I don't think it's the youth movement. It looks like a coaching problem. There are more vets than rookies playing. In fact there are very few rookies playing. The team has a lot of different faces through free agency, but these guys should be gelling by now. I think the finger points to Gun and his coaches...

On to the season opener... Let's hope the Chiefs saved the best for Game 1...<BR>

This is what happens when changes are NOT made to a POOR coaching staff. There's NO way that Raye and Schotz should have been retained after last year. The main problem with the Chiefs IMHO is POOR COACHING. Gun might NOT get the chance to FIRE the pair the SECOND the season is over. He's LOYAL to a FAULT and it just might cost him. Too bad, because I like Gun - but he is a HOMER IMHO!
