PROFOOTBALLTALK: Is it time for Chiefs to start Patrick Mahomes?

The media is on board! Huzzah!

Quote:
"All I'm saying is this -- the Chiefs started 5-0," Florio said. "They've lost three out of their last four. Something isn't working."

"We all know at some point in the next six months, if not sooner, they're gonna switch from Alex Smith to Patrick Mahomes, unless they win the Super Bowl or get there. They're going to make the switch this year, I'm convinced of it."

"I just think as you go into your bye week, you have to have some sort of a plan in place for possibly making a switch if this trend continues. 5-0's great, 1-3 isn't."

Simms questioned whether Smith was good enough to beat the top teams in the AFC, an issue that has been raised with him in the past.

"He's playing really well, we know that," Simms said. "But is he going to be able to get them over the hump against the really good teams in football? At this point in the year, the question still remains."

"The Steelers game, yesterday, they couldn't run the ball, all the trick plays didn't work. And then it became, you're going to have to sit in the pocket and beat this football team, and he was not capable of doing that."

"He had 264 yards but, remember, 56 of those yards were on a cheap play at the end of the half that's not a consistent, realistic play moving forward."

Smith's numbers over the first nine games remain strong -- 2,444 yards, 18 touchdowns, one interception -- and the biggest issues the Chiefs have had recently have been on defense. But Simms isn't convinced in Smith's ability when it counts the most.

"He's not their biggest problem, and we get that," Simms said. "And they're not anywhere near thinking of benching Alex Smith yet. That's not what I'm sitting here trying to say. Their team though, when I look at them out of the top-tier teams in football, they have two things that scare me. I think that's why out of the top-tier teams they're the worst team of the group, because they can't play defense and they have the worst quarterback out of the top tier teams."

Horrible defense, poor Oline play due to being soft and a QB that doesn't help them.

If Mahomes started I will be interested again, but for now this season is a lost cause.
Pretty much

Yep. A community is a community. Just because this one happens to be framed in the KC Chiefs means absolutely nothing, and should hopefully give Dartgod and any other confused folks some final understanding as to why we bother hanging around here.

It ain't about the football. At least not yet anyway.

It is what it is. It is what it has ALWAYS been. A group of 50 or less people continually busting each others balls.
