Traveling to Dallas on I-35. Any good places to sightsee or eat along the way?
Isn't the Nimitz museum on the way? Isn't there a German influenced area where you can get good German food just off of I-35? My wife and I like to visit historical and military museums and battlefields.
The last time we went to Dallas, we stopped in OKC to see the bombing memorial, stopped in Dallas to see where Kennedy was shot, went to San Antonio to see the Alamo, went to Houston for fun, visited the San Jacinto battlefield and the battleship Texas, then drove back to Dallas for the rest of the week. We made up our own history tour of the state of Tx. It was a really fun trip. I'd like to hit more historical locations again. But, we don't have the time or money to deviate from I-35 or Dallas as much as we did the last time. But, I would take a day to drive an hour or two out of the way to see something really worthwhile. So, World War II in the Pacific museum (Nimitz museum) is probably where we'll go. If the German area is south of Dallas, we might go there for some food as long as it isn't too far past Dallas. I would take 69 or another route, but we plan to visit friends in OKC. Last edited by Kylo Ren; 06-11-2012 at 08:51 AM.. Reason: Updated to clarify... |

America's interstate highway system is a wasteland of fast-food and mid-priced value chains whose food is tested on rhesus monkeys in industrial kitchens in St. Paul, Minnesota. Take a small highway and stop in the towns that are off the beaten path.

Isn't that McDonalds on I-44?
And no, there is nothing of note on I-35. To boot, the stretch between KC and Emporia may actually be the worst stretch of interstate anywhere, ever. |
