*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

My MCT oil hasn't arrived yet. Not sure how many calories are in that.

It's pretty decent. Gonna do it again for breakfast tomorrow with 2 tbsp of butter.
All oils are 120 cals/tbsp. Butter is slightly less than that, but not by enough to make a significant difference.

I think I'll stick with the 1 tbsp of butter then. 250-calorie cups of coffee are my limit.

GREAT day at the gym. Measurements went well. I finally lost some off my fat arms! I made my trainer say "I'm impressed." I haven't heard him say that in a while, and it was kind of nice. He said it whenever I was able to squat 115 lbs. My first set was 95 lbs, and my second set was 105 lbs. 12 reps each.

Before I started my third set at 115 lbs, he told me to look at the guy across from me. He said, "You see that?" I nodded knowing that he wanted me to notice that the dude wasn't even getting close to being down to parallel. He said, "Notice he just did the same weight you just did (105 lbs), only you went down all the way." It was kind of a feel-good moment.

Anyway, we talked a lot while I did the leg press. He asked me what got me started in getting in shape to begin with. We talked about that between my first and second set. Between my second and third set, I told him about the session we had that really got me to thinking about pushing myself. With taking measurements, he had to leave me to finish my workout by myself, but not before we talked a little more about plateauing, what will happen when I do, and about my current diet as is. I don't think I'm getting enough calories per day, and, when I told him how many I averaged, he agreed. That's something we get to talk about next week.

Then, I went and sweated my ass off. Superset straight leg dead lifts and walking lunges, and did my prowler. I'm just now realizing I forgot to do my leg lifts and planks, so I guess I should go do those real quick.

Just an awesome, awesome, awesome day at the gym.

Thomas Frieden has a scary job. As director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, he gets the call when infections begin defeating all known antibiotics, or Ebola resurfaces, or overdoses from prescription opiates begin skyrocketing.

Meanwhile, I'm the kind of person who won't even go see movies about disease outbreaks. So when I sat down with Frieden recently, I asked him the question hypochondriacs need to know: What has all this data taught him to fear? What does he tell his family to do differently?

His answer was borderline dull:

Very little is different really. It's basic. Wash your hands regularly. Get regular physical activity. Eat foods you love that are healthy. That's one of the things that's so challenging. Take physical activity as an example. You don't have to have much, 30 minutes a day. Doing that, which can be three 10-minute walks, is going to make a huge difference in your life. You'll feel better even if you don't lose an ounce. You will be much less likely to have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancer, arthritis, depression. You'll sleep better. And it doesn't cost a cent.

There's a lot a of things that can be done that are not very difficult and can make a really big difference. Of course, get your shots, get vaccination, get a flu shot every year and see the doctor regularly and if you have a problem make sure to get follow up.

Is this a paleo thing or something? I don't see the difference between his recipe or just adding coconut oil or some heavy whipping cream to your coffee. Do you just drink this for breakfast or do you eat food with it? Just curious.
