No one, and I mean NO ONE in the Big 12 territory as it exists today will stay up until midnight to watch a Big 12 school play SDSU. And that would be 1AM for WVU.
You seriously think that Texas and Oklahoma fans wouldn't stay up until midnight on a Saturday watching their team play football?

the 2 teams playing would, but no one else would. And I bet a lot of fans would give up early on a game against SDSU.

We're not discussing adding UCLA or USC here. SDSU is 2 or 3 rungs below TCU.

I could see an argument, if things break a certain way and schools are unexpectedly unavailable and we don't know about that until after we already go past 12, to add SDSU at #16. The Aztecs aren't total garbage, I'd even rather have them than UCONN.

But yeah, its unlikely, especially since I doubt we go beyond 12.

ESPN reporting that the ACC has a 7 AM meeting to talk about expansion. Believed to be about inviting Louisville into the ACC. UConn and Cincy could be in the conversation but they seem to be focused on one team for now to replace Maryland.

Andy Katz on SportsCenter right now. Says regardless of what you hear publicly, all three of the above mentioned schools want out of the Big East and into the ACC.

Katz also says North Carolina (or Virginia for that matter) does not want to leave the ACC and cause the conference to collapse. That's pretty much it.

If the ACC wants to slit their own throats, they should add just UCONN.

The conference won't collapse, it will just become the new Big East, which is where most of those schools belong.

There are over 200,000 alumnus in SD. SDSU basketball became the hottest ticket in SD about 3 years ago and our football team was shit for longer than the Chiefs, but they're getting better every year. They are going to win 10 games this year.

They're definitely better than the lower-tier Big XII schools, but neither school is a powerhouse.

Lots of people are transplants in this part of California. I imagine if you had B12 teams coming to play, attendance and following are going to increase substantially. Heck, if my son could earn a scholarship there, I would send him in a heartbeat (academic/music, he's not an athlete), very well credited college with discriminating standards. SDU is probably viewed as a little more elite with their marine biology program, but SDSU is no slouch.

That said, I have a hard time imagining a southern California member. The reason they are not in the PAC is because USC and UCLA hunt the San Diego County athletes, and its a good market. Junior Seau probably the most famous and Kansas fans will remember Scot Pollard. Those schools don't want more local competition. Its not hard to imagine their pool of athletes would go up with B12 membership.

The distance, however, is really difficult to get over and really makes one wonder how they would fit in any divisional or pod system if it gets that big. I would love to see it for personal reasons, of course.
The Aztecs are in a division next year with Boise St, SMU (Dallas), Houston, Memphis, and Temple (Philadelphia). I know that the Big East was more desperate for teams, but a western division including SDSU wouldn't be that bad. We're talking a 3 hour flight.

Right now, it might sound ridiculous, but the Big East isn't getting any other western members like they said they would and their TV deal is going to be a lot less than it was rumored to be.

As far as other people saying SDSU is a shit school, you're wrong.

Look at its enrollment. Only UT and TTU have more students. If SDSU were admitted to the Big 12 its endowment would probably immediately double and within 10 years quadruple.

I know its a longshot, but SDSU isn't as bad as some of you think.

Big 12 wanted Louisville too.

Quote:
The shift is another significant move in realignment and pushes college sports closer to 16-team super conferences. A source with knowledge of the ACC's discussions said a big reason that the ACC moved so quickly to add Louisville was that the Big 12 also had interest in the Cardinals.

So where does the Big 12 go now? Wait to see if FSU wants out? Stay at 10?
