Texas has certainly taken it in the ass from the rest of the conference. In football, basketball, and baseball, they finished the year a combined 17-24 in conference. (9-21 against teams outside of Texas)

They went 0-season against WVU and should have lost in football to Kansas. (They were 1-7 against Mizzou in 2011-12 and 4-2 against aTm.)

Coach K "butt hurt" about Maryland leaving:

► On Monday afternoon, Krzyzewski talked about the impact of Maryland's departure with Taylor Zarzour in Charlotte.

"When you make these decisions, it's not about a big splash," Krzyzewski said. "It's about the splash and whatever ripples would occur. The ripples have to do with ending rivalries, ending traditions, ending what our sport is about. They'll have to develop new ones."

That means not continuing at least one old one.

"We won't schedule Maryland," Krzyzewski told Zarzour. "They left, and we're not going to have a relationship with them. We believe that the people who shook hands a number of years ago and said, 'We're going to make the ACC this great conference,' we'll lock arms with them and go forward with them."

He is butt hurt, but you don't see him being a hypocrite and talking about how they were some great rival. Duke's big rival is UNC.

Maryland is pulling a Mizzou and crying about the rivalry ending. Blaming Duke. LOL.

Most everyone you read agrees that teams leaving conferences are making a dramatically terrible decision when it comes to traditions and rivalries. But universities have the right to compete where they want I suppose.

Well, when universities like Duke and Kansas pout and stomp their feet and take their ball home when rivals go on to greener pastures all you can do is shrug and say oh well.

Yep. It's hard to fault Maryland for jumping from a canoe full of holes to a yacht.

So far it doesn't look like it's making them any more money, at least not substantial money. I'm not sure what their fanbase enthusiasm level is although I'm sure they've hired some marketing firms to determine that for them. The sports season didn't go well and next year holds little promise. And they're now strangers in a strange land. Curious decision at best.

Perhaps for the members that have been there for decades. Not so much for the newbies.

Don't recall KU ever asking any other conference about joining. KU seems quite happy in the conference they are in from what anyone can tell.

KU already said thanks but no thanks to the Big 10. Besides, the Big 10 has Rutgers now. How fun.

I can't imagine folks in Madison or Champaign are thrilled in the least to have Maryland & Rutgers come to town. Talk about a waste of time. At least Nebraska is (was?) a name school in football and regional, but these two are pointless.

your first article is from 1993 and your second one is baseless conjecture. Nice try Bambi.

More like the B1G probably looked at the smoldering trainwreck that KU tries to pass off as a football program and said thanks but no thanks.

K-State is probably a more attractive school for the B1G than KU at this point due to K-State's competitiveness in the sport that really matters (football) and their multimillion-dollar biosecurity research program.
