It's not a vaccine in the sense of a children's chicken pox vaccine where those immunized kids will never see chicken pox or the subsequent shingles. It doesn't prevent the reoccurence of chicken pox/shingles in adults, it just attempts to boost your resistance to it much in the same way that you would if your kids showed up with the pox one day. It doesn't guarantee that you are not going to get it in the future.

I can live with that explanation. The vaccine is less effective as one ages, so I'm sure that 75% figure is pretty accurate.

As well, they don't currently provide the vaccine to anyone under 50 years old.

They'll probably start doing that, as, like I said, you are seeing more and more shingles cases in adults in their 20's, 30's and 40's due to the lack of the virus being circulated in the general population.

I got it this summer. Two other people at my work, both in their 20's got it in the past two years.

My case was relatively benign and has disappeared within 2.5 months. Didn't have a lot of pain associated with the nerve inflamation that is usually associated with the shingles and it was confined to just my back, side and chest in the typically seen horseshoe shape in three small areas.

I consider myself pretty lucky in that some people get it on their face, throat, eyes, legs, etc., are in immense amount of pain and it lasts for six months or more and looks like you've got third degree burns. Now my immune system is jacked back up and most likely (hopefully) I'll never see it again.

Damn, dude. Glad your course was benign. I heard the pain can be intense, and we don't have much to treat it.

As well, because of the immunizations that kids now get against chicken pox, the virus isn't being circulated in the general population like it used to and your body's resistance to the virus starts to drop. That's why there are more and more people in their 20's, 30's and 40's who are now getting shingles where they didn't see it until people got into their 60's, 70's and 80's when their resistance to the virus was lowered because of a naturally weakening immune system.

However, once you get shingles, your immune system gets a boost on it's resistance to the virus and you'll likely never get it again.

I know.

I got chicken pox p.II this summer.

I got the shingles in July 2013... That shit ain't no joke..

Doc said I can get them again... Had a friend who got them on his face and scarred him for life

Yeah, there isn't much you can do for it other than some Fentanyl patches and I wasn't getting junkied up on that shit for months. Sometimes you just got to grin and bear it.

The pain with the shingles was funny. It came in bursts versus a lingering constant pain. Like someone hit you with a hot poker in numerous random spots every so often.

It's about 50%.

Also, the term "the clap" for gonorrhea comes from the French "clappoir," which means brothel.
