10 Things About Yesterday’s Patriots-Saints Game

10: I’ve spent the last five days in Boston. What an incredible time to be in town. While I’m not a fan of any Boston sports team, I will say that the passion of their fans is unmatched. This town seems to live and die on the success of its sports team and I can’t think of any other big city in America that is quite like Boston. Oh, and the seafood is fantastic, and seeing the fall colors up here was a real treat.

Travel Tip: If coming to town grab a bite a Scampo – an Italian restaurant in the north end. It’s located in the Liberty Hotel, which uses an old prison to contain its lobby, restaurants, and clubs. Never seen anything like it.

09: I didn’t cough up the money required to attend one of the Red Sox games, I did take a cab to Fenway at get in on the 5 o’clock tour of the stadium on Friday. As I walked down to the men’s room, Torii Hunter was walking the opposite way, which was followed by Verlander. They were both going to do some photo shoots for TBS. An unexpected treat. Oh, and Fenway is awesome. As a Cubs fan, I’m glad this is the blueprint of their remodeling plans.

08: On Sunday morning we made the trip from our Hotel in Cambridge to Foxboro. It’s probably a 45-minute trip. The distance from Boston surprised me a bit, and the wait once you can see the stadium was looooooong.

07: The group I was with had premium seats that included access to VIP tailgate. For a group of out-of-towners this was the way to do it. We were able to watch the end of the early games and have a decent meal and comp drinks.

06: I’ve been to a number of NFL stadiums. Arrowhead is still by far my favorite for a lot of reasons, but what Robert Kraft has built in Foxboro is so unique. The stadium itself seems a little old school but the video boards are great. Not too big, not too small. I also liked feeling so close to the field. Where Kraft really exceeded is what he built around the stadium. The north and east sides of the stadium is basically wrapped by a mall. The VIP thing I was at was held in the movie theater. Ample parking, everything was well laid out. Outdoor LED boards were all over showing the early games. It all made for a great game day experience.

05: The Patriots defense really impressed me yesterday. Their defense forced a high-powered Saints team to go three-and-out a number of times. They shut down Jimmy Graham. And they did it all with out any elite defensive talent. For those who don’t think that the Chiefs can beat the Broncos due to their outstanding offense and out sputtering offense need to watch this game. It can be done, and with the help of our fans, I think we can beat them in our house.

04: If you think that Chiefs miss their TE’s, it’s nothing compared to how much the Patriots miss Gronkowski. They have nothing at WR, nothing at WR, and their running backs are good not greats. Frankly I feel bad for Tom Brady. I still don’t understand why they let Welker walk and failed to sign a legit replacement. I mean hell; can you imagine how much better this team would be with a Greg Jennings on the roster?

03: The Patriots deserved to lose. They had first and goal from the 9-yard line. A touchdown would have put them up 27 to 17 with only 7 minutes to play. John McDaniel chose to run three straight running plays. EVERYONE in the stadium booed when they ran the ball on the 5-yard line on 3rd down. After the Saints went up one point, the Pats still had 4 mins or so on the clock. Brady went for it all and threw a horrible ball. After holding the Saints and getting the ball back, the offense turned the ball over after doing nothing on 4 downs. The Pats looked like complete crap.

02: I was shocked at the Patriot fans that started walking out of the stadium when the Saints went up by just one point. TOM BRADY is you’re QB folks! When he threw that pick even more people left. I looked at my buddy and said they still have three time outs and the 2-minute warning left. Plus their Defense had been good all day. What spoiled fans. I mean $hit, it’s not like they are having a down year, they only have one loss. Those fans that walked out should be ashamed.

01: Those of us who stayed were treated to an awesome last minute drive from a first ballot hall of fame QB. Isn’t that what you pay to go see? I could ask for a better game to have attended. Sure, I’d rather be watching my Chiefs, but getting to watch Brady execute that drive was a thing of beauty, and something I will never forget.
