A Trent Green Question

Do you think that Green is still suffering from his concussion? Either physically, mentally or both?

Thanks.

I doubt he is feeling any physical effects from the concussion. I think he is suffering from having missed so many games and practices during the course of the season.

He also appears to be suffering from an high volume of Linebackers hitting him.

I agree.... he seems to be panic stricken since the OL can't protect him.
When he does get protection, he doesn't seem to have the same confidence level. Missing 8 weeks was too much to overcome.

That pretty well sums it up. Anyone who thinks that Huard would have done any better against SD's defense last night, or Baltimore's last week, is living in a dream world.

Stop questioning Green's patriotism! Er, courage.

I only ask because my wife (who knows even less than I about football) watched the game with me last night. She saw the Geathers hit on the replay and asked, "I wonder if he's scared now." I started thinking and wondering if he is playing any differently now than before.

No. I think Trent is struggling because of the O-Line. All the way back to 2000, when his protection breaks down, so does he. He's one of the best QBs in the game when the OL gives him time. He gets the jitters though and makes mistakes after he's been pressured. We used to call him TrINT because of it. Once he got the protection due to upgrades in the lone (like Roaf instead of Tate at LT) he calmed down and became a player.

I also think Trent is struggling because of the jokes we have at receiver. Last night Trent put the ball in Eddie's hands (our best WR) when the game was on the line and it bounced off both of Eddie's hands. The ball was on target in-stride and Eddie missed the catch. I wished I had a dollar for every ball our WRs had thrown to them this season that bounced of their hands or jersey numbers - thrown from both Huard and Trent.

Oh, and the pass to Parker late in the game that he missed, I thought at first is was PI (though after the replay I noticed that the Charger CB jumped in front of him and didn't make contact) but as I was wondering where the flag was it dawned on me that perhaps the pass was deamed "Uncatchable". Then the thought went through my mind that with Parker's ability to catch, just about every pass headed his way can be called uncatchable.

He was never very mobile and certainly isn't going to run now. That means he has to stay in the pocket. He's never had fantastic arm strength and he's getting old, so he needs to step into his throws to deliver crips accurate passers. The OL played horribly and he was getting hit and couldn't step up at all. That meant bad passes. He also looks worse by having poor receivers/receiving HB's that weren't running great routes and were dropping balls.

I'm gonna repost something I said last week that agrees completely with what you have said here -

Hell, if just half of the dropped passes his WRs have had the past few years had been held onto, he very well may have beaten Manning yards catagory instead of being second to. I think Trent has put this offense on his shoulders and carried them several times. Yeah, a lot of time behind a great O-line makes a huge difference, unless your WR corps can't get seperation or hold onto the ball. I'd say Trent has done as much for this O as Priest Holmes or LJ ever have.
