Parental Advice- Re: Xbox 360

Alright, my 11 year old son said a friend of his "gave" him his copy of Black Ops 2, because he thought he had lost it... got another copy and gave this other copy to my son.

I don't want my kids playing these violent video games, as it is, so I wouldn't buy this game for him.

Well, my son's friend's mom just called me and told me that they couldn't find the game anywhere... and they last remember playing it when my son was there.

My son then changed his story when confronted, saying that he was "borrowing" it and that his friend said that he could.

This is the third instance of him grabbing something that doesn't belong to him. He used my stored credit card in the XBOX to buy a bunch of credits to download games about 7-8 months ago. He took a gold peace sign necklace from my mom about 4 months ago. And now this.

So, should I sell the XBOX 360 or not? My instinct says yes. What say you?

TL;DR my son stole something for the 3rd time in the past 8 months, should I sell the XBOX?

It's called common sense. I don't need some fat British bitch to tell me how to raise kids.

Perhaps he should send his 11 year old to the Naughty Corner?

You might not but you might be stunned at the number of parents who do.

Those parents aren't going to figure it out from watching that reeruned show.

That's like saying that guys who don't appreciate their wives suddenly will after watching Wife Swap.

No he should take away his Xbox, internet, and other technology access. He should assign more chores and have the kid make enough money to buy back his access. Say half the cost of the Xbox if it is shared. He should NOT ground him from sports or other activities that encourage time away from video games. He should also limit play dates and sleepovers where he would have access to video games for the duration that he has lost his Xbox privileges.

The parents could use the time of reflection that accompanies the naughty corner.

Funny, I have talked to real people who have. What he show illustrates is eventual outcome of giving in or giving up.

Off topic, but everyone should get their kids into a sport or other activity or two that will give them something to do other than video games. I don't care if it's a sport, scouts, fishing, hunting, etc. Anything is better than video games. My kids get a half an hour of the wii if they are REALLY good and schoolwork and sports practice is done. Make time to take them fishing, exploring, or whatever it takes.

I'd take the younger, fitter Supernanny to the Naughty Corner.

Seriously, though...get rid of the video games. He's eleven and he's disconnecting from you. That's a really bad sign. More father/son time and less individual free play.

Take away the Xbox and make a plan to start making better parenting choices.
Hey asshole. I was in New Orleans when this game showed up. As soon as I saw that it was in the house, I took care of it.

Absolutely. My kid is about 12 months from being a black belt in Taekwondo... plays baseball at a competitive level... and is a pretty good point guard in basketball.

We have many conversations and I spend as much time with them as possible. I do think these video games have been a big problem... and his mom is sooooooper ****ing lenient with him on the disciplines that I set forth.

I'm beginning to think I need to get rid of her on Craigslist.

Honestly, all of our parents said the same shit about video games. We all turned out okay. I'd be way more concerned with the internet myself. But I don't have kids. So what the hell do I know?

I want my kids to be successful... not just "okay". :-P

The only thing that he really does on the internet is study HTML, CSS and Javascript via video tutorials and stuff.

So, I may let him earn that time back...

You're not only ****ed, you're a year or two away from getting your ass kicked by the prodigy sent to get even for all you did in your youth.
