Holland is a very, very good pitcher. Chill out, people. He'll be just fine.

He typically doesn't struggle with control, so I don't see any reason to view his shit performance tonight as a precursor of things to come.

When your closer throws 3 walks before getting an out, he no longer should be a closer. The ump's strike zone was tight all night. Yost, Perez...everyone in the ballpark knew that. The closer's job is to hit the strike zone, whatever the size of it.

Again, Herrera threw 11 strikes in just 14 pitches (I erroneously previously said 13 pitches; I stand corrected). If he gets in trouble early in the 9th, then you can knock your socks off and go with Holland...who, BTW, could have been brought in for the final 2 outs to get his precious save.

God forbid if anyone other than Holland gets a save for the Royals this year. He's counting on getting his ticket punched to Cooperstown...not for his total saves number, but for total number of save opportunities -- because that's what really counts.

1) Holland is your closer. Your best reliever. He believes it. The Royals believe it.
2) If you want to go back to the 80's and have a fireman, that's a different argument all together - and one which the MLB worked through in the 90s.
3) You had no one warming up.

Holland was overthrowing his 4-seam fastball and splitter the whole inning. Same thing he did against the Sox. If he can't keep the adrenaline from knocking his mechanics off, there's no way that's going to work. I'd still rather have Herrera because I think Herrera has a better arsenal and more control.

Upper 90s fastball that can be spotted, power changeup in the upper 80s and slow changeup in the low 80s, as well as a tight slider. Hey, maybe Holland will get it together and this is just an anomaly, I just think Herrera's better.
