If Bowe goes down . . .

What the hell are they going to do with the WR position?

I don't care how good of a play designer or play caller Reid can be, or if Alex Smith plays like he did in the playoff game for the entire season, we'd be lucky to average 20 points a game if our WR core becomes:

Avery, Jenkins, Hemmingway, Wilson/Williams/Dressler

Is Dorsey expecting our defense to hold opposing offenses to less than 10 points a game or something?

The only WR's out there right now who are worth even a tiny glance are:

Miles Austin
Santonio Holmes

That's literally it on the FA market.

Do we trade Flowers for someone? Who would make that trade? Hali?

It seems like the FO is betting on Jenkins, Avery, and Hemmingway to step up their games in year 2, but I won't be holding my breath on it.

Another possibility is that they expect Kelce back at full strength and expect him to be a 40-60 catch guy for us as an inline TE and occasional slot guy.

All I know is that Reid really has his work cut out for him. This offensive roster, in terms of receiving weapons, is nearly as bad as his early 2000 Eagles days when he had Todd Pinkston, Freddy Mitchell, and James Thrash as his top receivers. I just pray that Bowe can stay healthy and put up at least 80% of the production that Owens had for the Eagles in 2004.

Reeaaaaaallly hard to make that argument considering just how un-clutch Bowe's been in those moments as well.

... but I hear Miles Austin always comes through when he's not too busy being on the injury list!

I think Miles Austin would actually be a good fit on a one year deal. If he beats out Avery or Jenkins so be it.

I find myself almost hoping Bowe is lost for the season after the third or fourth game just so the sheer stupidity of this argument can be fully exposed.

Bowe didnt so shit last year its amazing how people dont understand Reids offense which is designed to spread the ball around. How many games did 5 or more different guys have a reception?

He really would be. IMO The question isn't his talent, he has plenty of that. The question is his health... and I think bringing him in at a minimum plus incentive bonuses type deal would be wonderful depth at worst.

That's cool and all, but he should be putting up bigger numbers than he did last year. Way bigger numbers. Especially considering how much we're paying the dude.

2nd half of the season, Smith started targeting Bowe a lot more than the other WRs. In big situations Smith would turn to him also. (final play of playoff game, second game vs Broncos final offensive play, etc)

Fact is, whether Bowe is actually good or not at this point of his career, he is the most reliable perimeter receiver that we have.

And no one is accounting for the fact that Reid's offense is pretty complex, and Bowe ain't exactly Einstein.

It took him most of the season to really start to get any grasp of this offense.

Year2 should be a big jump for him.

I guess that's a risk they're willing to take this year.

I'm not sure if they'll get someone after cut down day.

But a X or Y is a def need on this team.

Hope Bowe doesn't go down.

Well that's up to Alex Smith and the play calling. Last year Alex's favorite receiver was JC and he didn't throw the ball to Bowe that much. I think Alex feels safer with check downs, he plays like he's scared to throw an interception.
