why all the down talk, Chiefs are going to playoffs

Just because Roaf is retiring that doesn't mean we are not going to be a great team ! I am as fired up about this team as any Chiefs team in a long time . Our running game will still be great , Trent will shine and our defense will be lotsssss better . We will get a better pass rush and our young linebackers will have improved much with the expernce they recieved last year . The addition of Ty Law will help more than we know.
I am predicting at least a 11- 5 season and a seriour run at the Super Bowl . Go Chiefs !!!!!!!!

I think that Law only improves the defnse marginally.

The defensive improvement will have to come from the front 4.

That means that Ryan Sims, or someone else in the middle has to step up, and Hali has to be a bookend force with Allen.

If those two things don't materialize, even with Law, the defense will only improve 3-4 spots in pass defense, at best.

On the other side of the ball, we need two people to step up and play at tackle.

LJ will still get his yards, but Green could be harrassed if the tackle positions aren't stable, thus affecting the overall performance.

Id agree with all this. If none of that happens then we are looking at another 9-7 or 10-6 team again. That may or may not be good enough to get us to the playoffs, but i seriously doubt this team makes a super bowl run this year. There are still too many holes and question marks.

I've been saying since June that James Reed is gonna suprise people, and I stand by that.

I think pass rush will improve because with Ty Law and Surtain covering one one it will free up Gunther to blitz more. Still we need Sims to step up and Bell to contribute as a pass rusher . Go Chiefs !!!

Hey man, I appreciate your optimism. I think Roafs retiring will hurt a bit. We will be a more of a running team this year so Im not worried there.

What concerns me is the pass protection. I don't think we have a tackle on our roster that can pass protect the way Roaf can. Im hoping Turley can be solid. But I have faith in Solari. The guy is a smart football coach. He can be the mastermind behind those blocking schemes. Yeah we lose Roaf, but I think Solari has the brains to work his way around this loss. I think he is capable of creating effective matchups, schemes when we play teams with GREAT rushends.

Still though, losing Roaf, you lose out on options on offense. Tough loss for us. But I think we'll be alright. We do have a GREAT RB, and the interior of this line is still great. I think we do have some promising young tackles in Svitek, and Sampson. Not Roaf, but who is? You can't replace a hall of famer, you just can't. I'll also add, 2 great blocking TE's to this mix.

I think our defense will improve, Ty Law is a huge improvement, but I have to agree with milkman, it all depends on the front four. Im waiting to see how Hali and Sims will do. I have mixed emotions going into this season.

I could combine the 1,000 "we're doomed" threads, but then you and shane would complain about censorship.

I dunno. I do know that if I had 1st overall pick in fantasy, I'd now rethink that LJ pick. Also, TG drops to #10 overall since he'll be blocking again instead of receiving.

I wasn't going to pick LJ number 1 before Roaf retired, that spot rightfully belongs to Alexander of the Hawks, number two was up for grabs between LJ and LT but now clearly belongs to LT. The real question does the 3rd spot still go to LJ or does he drop out of the top three. We will have to see what kind of rabbit Solari can pull out of the hat. LJ is still a first round FF pick but it could be the lower part of the first round now. Might be a good thing for my draft.

Yep. If Jesus wasn't so adamant about proving himself instead of winning games, we might have fared better. LJ rushed for over 150 yards average as a starter without Roaf.

No one without a history of substance abuse would pass on Johnson enough for him to the fall to the latter part of round one, be it in a 10- or 12-team league.

He's going #4 at worst, and that's if a dope buys into Al Saunders hype.
