Eh...I find the process to be fairly quick and easy. Maybe it's because I do it so often. I jump from my basement Xbox to my bedroom Xbox all the time. Takes about 5 minutes to recover your gamertag and you are good to go.

One bad thing is downloaded content doesn't come with it (and it shouldn't), but sometimes I forget which box I have stuff downloaded on.

I'm curious, did he move the Xbox while the disc was moving? I've done that before and gotten a big scratch on the disc.

If you can't get it returned/exchanged, I'm sure where ever you live they have those "disc repair" places. I did that to a couple of my games and they worked fine - only cost me like $2 per disc.

Achievements don't transfer do they? At least that is what I was lead to believe. I may be wrong.

I would be surprised if they took it for an exchange in that situation.

Achievements transfer. Anything profile related will transfer. The only thing that doesn't is downloaded content which is saved to the hard drive of the Xbox you downloaded to.

No, it started making a noise when he turned it on and he received a disc error. When he stopped it and looked at it he found the scratches.

Sounds to me....very outside looking in.....that before he turned it on, the Xbox got bumped which pushed the disc out of it's tray. Essentially the same thing that I did, but I stupidly did it while it was on.

Did you have the problem with any other discs or just the one?

Didn't know that. So it's just getting her to get his Xbox connected to the internet and then he can beat the shit out of me at every game we play. Cool.

Just the one, and then he quit. It had red ringed a few times before and then it did this. So he called me and I told him not to play anymore and that we would call today. He says he didn't bump anything.
