I don't care about local/spot prices. Only the average matters in such an analysis.

Let's look at 2008, just for fun:

February 2008

Crude is $99. Gasoline is $3.11

September 2008 (after the high of $147 in July)

Crude is $96. Gasoline is $3.73

I think I'll demand to pay less for gas tonight, since it's only the national average that matters.

Of course local prices matter to the individual. That's why I wrote what I did. And it's accurate, if unpleasant.

You can always go inside and negotiate with the station. I've done it before.

And you're telling me the Govt can't control the differentials in pricing? Yeah okay.
We are set to become the worlds largest oil producer in the next 5 or so years and are always near or at the top in gas consumption. They could certainly influence pricing if they so chose. Too many people getting rich is the problem.

No, I'm telling you they CAN. It's just a really bad idea.

I think you should determine the national high, and pay that. Seeing as you you derive so much enjoyment from everybody else paying too much.

I'm fortunate where I can drive 15 or so minutes to either Md or Va and save significantly on gas, but it doesn't change the fact that prices are too high everywhere.

Does anybody use the Hy-Vee Fuel Saver Card? I saved about 1.20 a gallon the other day.
The downside, I have 1500 Flavor Ice Treats to consume.
