Camping

Heat, bugs, boredom, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, and bears. Why do white people like it so much?

Very nice. That looks a lot like the Cooke City area.

I never NEVER go camping in the heat. I'll do ba little on hunting trips in the fall when the leaves are turning, the air is clean, no bugs and an open fire where you grill the Ducks, Pheasants or deer you just shot.
The last time I went camping was in october last year in Chadron, NE at toadstool park. This area is the beginning of the foot hills for the Rockies. I went Antelope hunting that weekend and shot a nice one. That night I put 4 antelope steaks on the grill, drank a scotch and had a smoke.
Twas awesome.

I love camping, but I am one of those that prefer pulling my camper....although I've never camped anywhere close to where Bwana actually has. Seems like a tent would be much more appealing in that case.

Very cool Dave. I packed most of my stuff in my truck yesterday, with the exception of coolers, guns and the briskets I smoked yesterday, to take along.

Come Thursday, I'll load the ATV's and be on my way.

Heh. No, they're formerly in-laws, not formerly black.

They were more of the camper type. They loved to sit outside under the awning sipping Canadian Mist and smoking ganja all day long (fun fact: the two times I have ever smoked pot in my life were both camping with them).

Camping when I was growing up was dad and I taking the boat out to a lake, setting a tent up (usually a formal campsite, like in a national park), spending basically the whole day on the lake starting around dawn, and then spending the evening around a fire listening to football or baseball games on AM radio. Those are some of the few fond memories I have from growing up, watching the sparks from the campfire float up toward the stars.

(Not saying I have a whole lot of bad memories or anything like that; I don't remember much at all, have a terrible memory, but those nights around the campfire on a weekend fishing trip as a teenager are some of the strongest).

Depending on where you're at, a gun isn't a bad idea either.

True enough, but I'm on the east coast, in the northeast right now. I've only got to deal with black bears, not Grizzlies. Outside of a pissed off moose, I'm pretty much safe from the wildlife.

beautiful area

seems to me that is living in a tent so you can go sightseeing

The main objective is to see all the cool wildness not to just sleep in a tent. I like to canoe so i end up camping so i can float the rivers etc but i wouldn't camp just for the sake of it.
