LNBS: how old were you when you first fell in love?

I'm 36 and have told 4 or 5 women that I loved them in the past, but that was mostly a "I love you, too" kinda thing and it followed a good ****ing most of the time. I had never been the one to say it first because until it was said to me, I never really felt I was in love with any of them. With each of them I tried to fall in love and it never worked out. Each time I had to end it because the feelings weren't ever mutual and I didn't feel it was fair to either of us to continue. There was always something missing.

That changed a couple weeks ago. I've been seeing this gal for about 5 months now and it's been unbelievable. We click on every single level a couple can click on. If I had sat down and described the exact woman I was looking for after high school till now, she would fit the description to a t. 3-4 years ago I had come to the conclusion that I might never find someone that is everything I want and that my expectations were simply too high (I've always been like Jerry Seinfeld in that I move on if anything isn't perfectly in line...in a way) but IMO fate took ahold of the situation and made some unusual situations that caused our paths to cross and sparks flew immediately.

In the past I would probably have laughed at one of my friends if they were talking about getting married and buying a house after only knowing someone for under a year, but we've been talking about doing just that recently. It just feels 100% right and for once I can honestly say I can see myself spending the rest of my life with this woman. It's crazy to type that out even.

We have similar goals in life, are in a similar place financially, have similar outlooks on every major aspect of life, our family structures are nearly identical, we have an amazing sex life, she is amazing with my son and truly "gets him" and has a bond with him that really gets me (I didn't even let her meet him until almost 3 months in because I am extremely protective of him) we motivate each other and keep each other focused while also having a 6th sense about when we both want to let loose. People that haven't seen me for a few months constantly ask me what's changed because I look different. Everything about me feels different.

She has made me (not by her request, but because I want to improve myself) eat healthier (I've lost 30 pounds in the last 5 months) no fast food, no soda, my fridge is filled with real food, I exercise and go on walks and jogs because I want to. She just makes me feel like the best part of my life is yet to be written and that's pretty big because IMO I've lived a pretty terrific life thus far.

My question (as the thread title states) is at what age did you first fall in real love?

I just asked my wife if she remembered what I first said to her at that party because I couldn't remember. She said I walked up to her and told her "I've got good news and bad news. The good news is your long search for the perfect man is over. The bad news is I fart in my sleep."

She laughed about it tonight and said "well, you weren't lying."

Btw, congrats on finding that girl, Bosschief.

I said I love you way too early in life and way to often for my input on that to have any impact on this thread.

I will add though, that I knew I wanted to marry my wife only a couple weeks after I met her. I still waited like five years just to be reeeeeeeaaaallllyyy sure, but I knew right away. I even called my dad back home and talked to him about it. He was the one who suggested I take my time. I was 19 when I met her.

That's good to know. I broke up with a girl last year and it absolutely destroyed me for a couple weeks. I've realized it was probably for the best, though.

17-18ish for the "first time." Girl I met indirectly over MySpace. Broke up with her by sheer avoidance because she got drunk as well as insinuating I was practicing witchcraft.

22 the last time. She was dating another guy who lived hours away at the time, and I noticed her because of the mutual appreciation for a certain song one night at my fraternity house. We dated for a while, pretty much until the end of the fall semester when I didn't call her or see over the Holidays because she told me I was the worst boyfriend she ever had because I didn't want to spend every free moment I had with her. This was after mentioning her last (or second-to-last) boyfriend had physically hit her at least one time.

This came right about the time my mother told me her boyfriend was shoving her into furniture as well.

As such, I had several weeks to stew about stuff and was counseled into the idea that I should break up with her. Which I did, even though she got on her knees and begged for me not to leave her.

Fast forward three years, she's married to one of my former fraternity brothers who has allegedly laid hands on her at least once and failed out of college, while I have partied my ass off but haven't really figured out my life out.

I thought I was in love at 19. I met this chick in college and my god she made me feel like a million bucks. I was on a cloud. Even though it was firmly founded in naivete, I was profoundly happy. Well, anyway we both went home for summer and I drove across the state to meet her parents and spend the weekend with her. I was seriously contemplating dropping the "L bomb". Then she dumped me. I was devistated. I hated all women and the ridiculous hold they have over us.

I met my wife the next winter after cycling through a few chiks and she kept sticking around even though I kept trying to drive her away on account of the last chick. It's a good thing too, it allowed us to develop a real love based on a relationship rather than the fleeting elation of finding someone that fit my misconceived notion of what I thought I wanted.

I may never feel the naive joy again, but I am far happier with a good woman with mutual love.
