Don't believe there's a dedicated thread, and since they're starting to release information now, I figure it's time for one.

Video of the Eternity Vault demo from the feature panel at PAX yesterday. They invited 6 people from the audience to join in on the raid.

Let's just say...the ending was one I've experienced a time or two myself over the years...

Interesting comment I just came across that ties into this in a hilarious way:

However we do expect people will die and die and die trying to figure it out. There is also another fight that is an actual puzzle that you need to solve well you are constantly getting attacked that should prove to be interesting as well.

“The 1st time you encounter any of this stuff it will be extremely harder then what was shown at the Gamescom demos,” said Emmanuel. “It was nerfed at the show due to the fact we didn’t want everyone dying all the time for the presentation.” Let’s just hope we’re all prepared to die.

Pretty cool reddit post about the voice acting, which I hadn't really considered before, for whatever reason: http://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/commen...r_classgender/

Listening to all those, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be mixing genders. Something I have never done in an MMO previously. I always play male characters, because I find it's easier to identify with my character. And that actually goes back to my regular RPG days, too. Even with KOTOR, the first game I remember with cinematic styling that's BioWare's signature, I was always a male (and generally a scoundrel/consular, sometimes a scout/consular). But with Jennifer Hale voice acting Mass Effect 1/2, I began to play female avatars for the first time. Her renegade voicing is so good in those games...

So, after listening to all those, I'm pretty sure my consular (main) will be a male - not a surprise there. I think I'll also play a male Knight (although i'm vascillating on that one) and a male smuggler (no doubt...), but with Hale voicing the Trooper, I'll be going female. And on the Imperial side, I'm definitely going female for the Warrior (Claudia Black!!) and the Inquisitor, and male for the BH and Agent.

It's hard to explain, but the voice talent I'm going with somehow sounds the way I envision my characters, which is I think going to be one more level of immersion I hadn't really realized was going to be there. I mean, I knew it was voiced, and I knew it would blow text boxes out of the water, but I hadn't really thought about deciding what gender I was going to be because of the acting. Pretty cool.

I never identify with my avatars. They're always just a means to an end for me. So, I go for eye candy, which is generally female.

I think that's pretty normal for gamers these days. MMOs stopped being "MMORPG"s years ago, and I don't think the console market (which is by far the focus of game development now) has ever had any kind of focus on immersion in the roleplaying sense, even in the console RPG market, with their predominantly eastern (as in asian) influence. Everything is focused on min-maxing.

I'm sort of the other end of the spectrum. I have the hardest time naming my characters, because I want it to be something good, and if it's an MMO I always go with the default character, because if I don't, the game looks wrong to me. Which in one sense is weird, because I'm taking the characters role, but I'm not literally thinking of my actual self in that role. It's more about me being the character, but doing the things I would do (I almost always play 'good'). I think part of the reason I've so rarely had female avatars is the simple fact that so few games have female protagonists.

Either way, I always have the hardest time with MMO avatars, getting exactly what I want, because that character is who I'm going to be until the time I stop playing the game...

I'm already having a freaking nervous breakdown trying to come up with names for all my toons.

There were tons of women in lotro. Like to the point that it was beyond belief. I remember meeting one girl in EQ (from cali, an asian chick I nearly left my fiance for. she was hot. i actually met her IRL). I don't think I ever met any in WoW, which I played 2 years, but in lotro, there were literally dozens and dozens.

The advantage of vent is that you basically know who you're dealing with...

(although to this day, I still hate being on voicechat)

Same thing in the mudding world. Oh man, the drama that would ensue when it would be discovered that some slut who had been mudsexing half the dudes in the game was discovered to be a dude in real life.

There's a reason I stayed away from that side of gaming.

We had like 7 girls in my WoW guild (1 of them was the wife of a male guild member). There was one super hot asian who played as a Gnome female mage, interestingly enough (as opposed to Night Elf).

I still remember the chick from EQ. Her name was Rebecca. Her character was Dark Elf cleric. I actually flew out to Redding, California to meet her.

She was married, though, with a toddler, and I just couldn't pull the trigger with a married chick. I've had second thoughts about that weekend about 6 trillion times the last 12 years. Wonder what would have happened if I'd said the hell with my stupid morality and left the fiance for good. She (Rebecca) was just about as close to perfect for me taste wise. Asian, dyed hair (purple at the time), a few piercings, very smart, used to spend hours and hours talking to her.

I've done so much stupid shit with chicks online, half of them from games. I should write a book.

I only hate Voice chat because there is always 1 or 2 people that like to talk over everyone or just try to be the funny guy and it gets annoying as hell. lol

But yeah, i never met anyone from EQ, but i did in them old HTML chat days. lol I had this chick travel from Virginia to cali in a bus i aint even lying. haha. It was cool for a few weeks then said gotta get to scootin girl. haha Tho i paid for it, the least i could do. haha

But i knew this dude, he was cool as ****. WE used to group together in EQ after raids. Farming gear, getting some AA's. Well, he fell in love with some chick (so he thought). Once that person told him the truth (dude/fake chick was gay of course) dude almost lost it. I was worried for his wellbeing. Thats some ****ed up shit to be lied to like that. For some people its very easy to fall for folks. He quit eq and i didnt see him for like a year, he came back after a bit for a little while, but he never played the same again. lol
