If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

Discuss...

I would not be surprised if we traded for a QB and drafted one, or even two in different rounds of the draft.

People keep thinking that Geno is KC's pick because he's the top pick. I think it's more of "well no other positions make sense for the Chiefs so QB is the only one to project".

NFL scouts don't view Geno as a top 10 pick. I've heard that twice already on NFL Network and ESPN. That's why I'm so confused as to why this guy isn't going to the Senior Bowl? I think he's more scared of his stock dropping than rising.

There probably will be 2, possibly 3 QB's taken in the first 10 picks of the draft.
According to scouts, it's a NEED pick and we already established we are not doing that NEED bullshit anymore.

You need to figure out that need is incorporated into BPA. Position of the player as well.

And people seem to be projecting him there because, yes he is a QB which the Chiefs need, QB's tend to get overdrafted, and he fits Reids offensive philosophy pretty well.

But when was the last time there was so much uncertainty surrounding the position before The Combines?

No.

You seem to think that people who want to draft Geno are just pulling his name out of the hat because they're desperate and would be happy with anybody. Which just isn't true. The people who like Geno want to draft Geno because they think he's going to be very, very good. Which would be why there's dozens of gifs and videos and analysis in that 9000+ post thread.

The simple truth is this: You think Geno is a huge risk. And many, many people disagree with you. Including every single draft "expert" who says he isn't a #1 and then has another team draft him at 3 or 8.

I think Barkley and Smith really screwed up by not going to the Senior Bowl. Those guys don't have the potential of a guy like Matt Stafford for example. They aren't such a lock that they can just bow out imo. They have a lot to prove and I think it could backfire on them. The combine is more about interviews than anything else. As far as QBs go, the game film and the senior bowl are far more important combine imo.

Well let me ask you this. Right now People think Tyler Wilson and Matt Barkley will be 2nd round picks. Is there really that much of a difference between them and Geno? I don't think so. Neither do scouts.

The QB class is so close in this draft between the top 5 or 6 guys.

At this point, like Dane has said many times, it's pointless to bitch and moan when 90% of the evaluations on these guys haven't even happened.

Most top QBs dont go to the senior bowl. Both of these guys have played 4 years. They have shown all they can in a game setting. Its time for interviews and shit now.

Well, judging by your sig, it's fairly easy to see where you stand.

And do you really think those guys will last to the 2nd round? Look at the history of the QB spot.

Right or wrong, they will get overdrafted. Always happens.

I agree, i think it'll be a lot like last year, and will continue into the forseeable future, where teams are reaching for guys who arent true #1 material, everyone is really waking up to the fact that you might have to reach a little at that position these days.

Teams now know that without something resembling an ace at quarterback, you're just spinning your wheels in the current incarnation of the NFL.

Is that why NFL scouts are saying he is not a sure-fire top 10 pick?

If after the combine, pro days, etc all these guys come out and say, "Geno is the top guy, he's the best QB in this class, going first overall" are you gonna change your tune?
