Online Poker is back, Legal & Running in Nevada

Recently you may have heard bills that went through legalizing online poker in Nevada and New Jersey. The first LEGAL online poker site is now up and running for Nevada residents AND VISITORS. It is called www.ultimatepoker.com

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...aming/2123275/

Apparently you don't even need to be a resident of Nevada, just need to confirm you are there. Based on their reps on Two Plus Two Poker Forums, they indicate they only triangulate your cell phone to verify it is in Nevada..

Ultimate Poker is a subsidiary of Station Casinos LLC of Las Vegas, which operates 16 locals-oriented casinos in Nevada. You can go into any of those casinos to cash out or deposit, as well as deposit online. Cash in hand, right away, no waiting.

I've heard the software is rough, and today is the first day of their beta testing but the success of this thing will be a huge deciding factor on if other states follow suit. I am hoping for good things

I don't even miss online poker anymore. There were too many people online that didn't understand the game, played every hand, and would slop out. But, should it be legalized, (beyond Nevada), I would probably start playing again, (just not as often as I was). I do miss home games and playing in a league. There's a real advantage to playing against people when you're face-to-face.

Just for fun, (and when I have time to relax), I do play Poker Superstars II on my laptop. For a cheap computer game, it's not bad.

If you never are seeing big multiway pots in live games, well, you are just playing in some bad games.

As far as raise amount, I don't want to go into poker theory in great detail but I don't know what would be considered to be a correct raise. IMO (which is probably flawed) raise sizes certainly shouldn't be static, they should be based on your image, stack depth, player ranges, position, and board texture. It is true that standard opening raise sizes in live play are generally larger than live, but that is due to people understanding there is a lack of fold equity in these good games and the fact that they play deeper (most live games let you buy in at 200 big blinds and players routinely acquire larger stacks due to high VPIP and more players seeing flops)

Also, "online players" are many times despised at live games quite frankly because many are doucehbags and think they are better than they are. But, most of them are just younger kids that have played only a very low amount of hands online, read a poker message board once or twice, and beat off to Durr and Phil Galfond but haven't put in the time to be any good. Most of the time, the online players problem is they just don't realize people do not fold and over estimate fold equity.
I appreciate your "teachings", but I play often (2-3x a week here in Vegas) mostly tournaments. Raising properly encompasses many things, not just 3x the blind. I know how to play, and the people I've played with who are regulars feel the same way I do regarding online poker, and how online poker players play. We are mot douchebags. we have been playing for years, and thats what weve seen. at least in this town. And it's not playing wrong to get multi way pots, but if you're constantly in a 5 way pot, that's no bueno. Heads up or 2-3 is good and lucrative. 5 way? Lucrative it can be, but also a bigger chance of getting donked on.
Like I said, I've been playing for many many years, mostly tournament ( and I tend to cash a lot). I'm a good player. I'm not a douchebag. And I've seen online plays be douchebags, and they a usually young and always expecting that straight flush to come along....

Agreed. It should be legalized. No doubt. I won't play though. I have access to live and I much prefer live.

I don't blame you. With you having the luxury of playing live, I would think that online games would be a waste of your time and energy.

The only thing that I really liked about playing online was that you could join your long-distance friends/family at a table. Of course, I never played for cash against my friends/family online. If I'm going to take their money, I want to see the expression on their face when I do it.

I remember where I was when Full Tilt and Poker Stars went down to the DOJ, on I-435 listening to Nick Wright. He had a conniption on the air, basically cried and could not believe ppl that were calling in telling him about it. Week before he was raving about his first tournament he ever one and had a somewhat of a roll that got stuck on there.

Everybody from Poker Stars did. You have to file a claim with the DOJ for Full Tilt and apparently you will get your money back eventually.

I don't blame you for not trusting non-regulated sites, however, in theory you should have nothing to worry about with this site. You can deposit money and play the same day or even hour, and then right after you are done cash out. No more waiting for weeks or even months for a payment. And it's 100% legal, regulated site.
