Sex Change...
For the third time in my career we were informed on Friday that a stellar male engineer has decided to live his life as a woman. I've worked with him on several projects and I didn't see this coming. He has a BS and MS from MIT. Smart guy, now girl.

My company (9000+ employees) handled this really well. The issue went to the top of corporate HR and when all was said and done everything went smoothly. It was "site specific" and we were asked to attend a meeting. Managers explained that the newly-named "Ally" was starting treatments to become a woman.

I'm old, it's 2014, and Ally is a smart girl. Good for her!

Good for you, Stewie. I was in a meeting with woman who gab completed her transition and one of the men there pretended that he couldn't remember her gender. It was really awkward and unpleasant. I don't know how he thought he benefitted from his passive aggressive charade. Live and let live.

She would use the ladies restroom. Although the physical change may take time, usually once it is announced the transgender person would immediately begin identifying as their "new" gender, including using that gender's facilities and wanting to be referred to as that gender. (In this case, "she" or "her", not "it".)

It's a concept that takes some getting used to.
