*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I like being leaner but the strength loss that comes with it is mentally brutal for squats/deads.
The 'good stuff' will definitely help hold on to more strength while you lean out, probably still gain a good amount of strength. That stuff really helps out when we get older and our recovery ability isn't what it was when we were in our 20's. You don't have to run insane cycles like you see these pro bodybuilders, a simple trip to your local endo or 'anti-aging' clinic will get your started when the time is right.

You may not, but I know I have and I know it seems to be a fairly common thing with a lot of people that are lifetime lifters. I think I saw Tooge mention he kind of shifted gears a bit about 35 as well as focus more on leaning out.
I think that happens to most of us, it took me to 41 to start thinking this way. At 47 I still struggle going back and forth between lifting heavy to get bigger vs just maintaining strength and leaning out.

Just went in for my weekly weigh-in...377.5, down 2.5 pounds from last week.

Feels like a $5 discount on a Cadillac, but I'll take it. Had a good week on the stationary bike and a pretty good eating week as well. Good habits are starting to form and things that used to really tempt me don't tempt me as much as being healthy at this point.

The whole gut bacteria thing is blowing up in the health world. I not only take multiple types of probiotics I also supplement with resistant starch, inulin and FructoOligoSaccharides to feed the good bacteria.

There's approximately 100 trillion of these little critters inside of us and they each come with a more complex genome than our own.

A lot still isn't understood about how they work but several connections have been made on how they help us. This had been studied pretty thoroughly in the past and was forgotten about.

Here's a good starter link with links to other great info. http://freetheanimal.com/2013/12/res...r-newbies.html

There's a ton of new blogs popping up on this subject.

I go to the gym seven days per week. When I tell people this, they say that this is bad for me and that I need to take a rest day. I live a very sedentary life outside the gym. I sit all day at work, I sit all evening at home when I'm not cleaning, I sit when I drive.....

I don't do weight training everyday. I choose two days to do cardio, or just to work on something I've just learned at a slow pace to make sure I'm getting my form down.

Am I wrong to go to the gym everyday?

No. Keep going until you're satisfied with your body. Then maintain.

You may get burned out, though. But it doesn't appear you're close to that point.

**** no. I don't think you're straining your body too hard. You start to have some nagging injuries pile up and you might need to quit, but shit, especially if you're enjoying it, go like hell.

Yea I don't think I'd ever run a really aggressive cycle of anything. I'd just like a little boost in recovery, strength and staying leaner.

Don't you have to have a low T diagnosis to get that stuff, Aspengc8?

Bigdaddy, CYP? And yea, that sounds great being in that range. I've never had my T tested but I might do that this summer just to see.

Anyway, feel free to take this to PM if anyone wants to share some info that they don't feel like sharing publicly.
