Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I love my Russian SKS. I've had it for a few years, and its been 100% reliable so far. No doubt that its a great alternative to an AK.

The thing I don't like about the SKS (at least the ones I've seen) is that they take stripper clips instead of mags.

The SKS I have takes an odd magazine.

yep, but you can put a high capacity magazine on them too. I haven't done that to mine--yet. I wasn't planning on doing it either because it's my "last resort" rifle. But with the gubment doing their "I know what's best for you" BS, I might just go ahead and put a high capacity magazine on this bad boy. It already has a synthetic stock that collapses. Fuggit.

I'd hold off on doing that for now.

True. But I see it as a blessing and a curse.

I never have to worry about losing mags, or replacing them because they damaged or unreliable. On the bad side, it's a pain to have to reload by hand every 10 rounds.

One of the Chinese SKS variants takes AK mags.

Because if some of our worst fears come to pass and they push through some sort of magazine ban, having a rifle that takes a clip instead of a mag might be the difference between legal and not legal.

Good points. I have a Garand that falls into the same category.

Here is a pic I found of the mag my sks takes. It's a funky looking contraption.

I must be too refined, because that SKS is a closet piece. If I want to spray bullets it's Saiga time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but any rifle that you can attach a bayonet to is considered an assalt rifle and the SKS is a bayonet rifle, so I'm screwed anyway, yes?

The old ban had these options:

Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device that enables launching or firing rifle grenades, though this applies only to muzzle mounted grenade launchers and not those mounted externally).

Most people chose Pistol grip for their "option".

If you have a pistol grip and bayonet, it would be illegal under the old ban.
